Transferring Movies to the Photon

Hi guys/gals.

I'm traveling next week and would like to bring my own movie(s) along on the plane. I have said movies in AVI format on my pc, but when I attempt to transfer it to my Photon SD card using the MotoCast USB, it just sits there and looks at me...nothing happens.

My understanding was that the Photon does read AVI files, but I wouldn't know, since I can't seem to transfer the files!

Can someone point me in the right direction, or thread, and also let me know how long it should normally take to transfer a 1.5 hrs movie file to the Photon and what software you use to do it?

If you're looking to place them on the phone or extsd card, I'd just use windows to do the transfer via USB. I'd place them on the extsd card and use MX player to view them as it recognizes more than just avI format.

I use "easy video player" to watch movie on my phone. It can play most of the video format. I use Wi-Fi connection to copy movie to SD.

Thank you both! I have spent the past 2+ hours trying to figure it out. For one, it seems I must convert even AVI files to MP4 (using Any Video Converter), then use MotoCast via USB to transfer the file to my Photon, then use MX Player or Mobo to watch the video. The conversion alone is taking some time. I have no idea why the AVI was not transferring to the Photon...

I'd really like to know how you use Wifi to transfer to the SD, chris!

Sounds like you've been killing urself over there. No conversion needed if you drag and drop directly to your photon. When you connect it via USB both internal & external SD drives should pop to allow to to pick where you want to place files. Up until a week ago I had my photon loaded with approximately 25 gigs of movies in avi format. I never used MotoCast though, so that could be what's requiring you to convert to mp4's.

The minute I attach my Photon via USB, Motocast comes on. I didn't realize I could drag/drop via Windows files. Hmmm, will have to try that, once I figure out how to turn off Motocast.

Also, any good apps that read Divx files, in addition to Avi, etc.?

I just spend hours converting files! :/

One more question: what is the ideal movie screen size for a Photon? My converter switches the file to 800x480, but the video looks like widescreen on the Photon screen - a definite waste of screen space.

I could always take my iPad along for my movies, but if I can manage them all on the Photon, so much the better. Less to carry on.

MX Player player plays just about any video file type. I personally don't worry too much about the screen ratio of the movies bcuz I can always change it with MX Player, not to mention double the speaker volume. I love the drag/drop method over any other.

How do you get double the speaker volume on MX? It sounded the same to me as when playing regular music files.

The Photon's screen resolution is 960X540 .

I have scott pilgrim on my phone, in avi format, I play straight from "gallery"...

Windows explore it, drag and drop on either MOT:F or sd:G (or other drive letter)

How do you get double the speaker volume on MX? It sounded the same to me as when playing regular music files.

When you drag/drop...which folder do you drop the movies in to make sure they are on the SD?

MX achieves double volume by selecting S/W encoding.

As far as placement goes, it doesn't matter where on the SD card u put them, it'll find them

Once I did manage to convert and get one movie on my phone, though, it worked pretty well..though it still bothered me that it wasted the top/bottom quarters of the screen. It looked the same on my iPad, so obviously the film is widescreen, but it make a huge difference to watch it on the iPad screen vs the MoPho. But in a pinch, it worked fine.
