Transferring Pictures/Photos

Thanks for the tips. It worked like a charm for my photos. But I couldn't get anything like music or movies into those other folders. Tried exactly like you suggested. Thoughts?

Did the transfer hang again? Just wondering I was able to transfer music and movies (2gig files) without one problem at all. I will say it cannot handle multiple transfers so one transfer process at a time. Multiple files yes but only one process.

Edit: Oh let me add in Win 7 when moving MP3s and movies it likes to pop up and ask if you are sure you want to copy those files they might not work. Do it anyway they play just fine!

**** I posted what I found on this transfer in another thread so though I would add it here hope it helps someone. I know I am much happier knowing this now.

OK I ***THINK*** I have the issue figured out! For me at least I hope this helps. I feel dumb!!!
I was trying to copy pictures to the DCIM/Camera folder which results in the transfer hanging every time!
I was able to just drag and drop with NO problems to subfolders I created in the PICTURES folder off the root dir. Try this it should take care of any issues. Also when I try to sync HD .3gp files from my Tbolt through Media Player it says it cant do it because the phone can't play the format. In this case just drag and drop those files in the "Movies" dir off the root dir and they play like a champ!!! Also this is done with MTP so it is perfectly fast!

Simply put you can copy out of the DCIM folder but NOT into it. Not sure if that was posted before but now I finally know and hate my phone less!

Now if I would only get voicemail notifications!!!

when you transferred your pics to the PICTURES folder are you able to zoom them in and out while using the gallery app to view them?

Yes no problem. Open the gallery app, then click on the group you want ... it will be Pictures if you just dumped pics in the Pictures folder on the phone or if you created sub folders with names under Pictures it was display those as groups. So select the grouping you want, you get the grid layout of all the pics just tap the one you want to make bigger. Then you get the pic full screen except the little film strip at the bottom. From here pinch to zoom or tap once more and it will remove the film strip thing at the bottom and only show you the pic you selected then pinch to zoom. Let me know that is odd!

Worst case just use Win Media Player and use the Sync method it seems to work just fine as well. Well except for some videos I have found you have to copy paste.

And the transfer to the pictures folder you are talking about is being done via MTP not PTP correct?

In a prior post you mentioned that you could only do one transfer at a time. Do you mean that we connect the phone, do a transfer and then have to disconnect the phone and reconnect to do another xfer?

Yes MTP, no I meant you can't start one batch transfer process then before that is finished go and start another like you could with any other drive. Have to wait for the first transfer to finish first or it seems to hang every time. No matter what we simply need mass storage back because this is just a huge pain which it should not be, stupid Samsung!

This phone is making me feel so stupid. I'm using Win XP and cannot figure out how to transfer over pictures & documents. Anyone have an idea how to do this with a computer? (emailing and uploading isn't an option for this amount of files.)

ETA; my solution.. upgrade to WMP 11. After a reboot, I was able to connect the device and drag/drop like you should be able to.

On my Galaxy Nexus, I connected via USB and had to navigate to DCIM and the Camera to get the pictures.

I have solved my file/picture transfer problems using the cable, but since using an app named Wifi File Explorer Pro for the last several months I rarely do a cable transfer. If you have Wifi available you can transfer any files back and forth between your PC and phone. It's definitely worth the small price I paid.

Should've gotten AirDroid instead. Much easier to work with Wifi File Explorer AND it's FREE. :D

Did not know of Airdroid I will give it a try.
Do you have any problems using it with ICS? I am on 4.02
