Tried Nova launcher and went back to stock

It's funny because I downloaded nova prime yesterday on my note 8 and then uninstalled it 10 minutes later. I just like the stock launcher better on this phone. Wish we could use the icon packs on it though.

There's an app called awesome icons that will let you.

I prefer stock on the Note 8 but I run Nova on my Tab S3 because it hasn't been updated to "Samsung Experience" and Nova is better than "stock" on the Tab S3.

I quickly got used to the Moto environment (Nougat 7.1.1, so far) on my new Moto E4 Plus after a long-time love affair with a Samsung Galaxy S3. Then, seduced by all the hubbub about Nova, I gave it a try and you know what? Eh. It's clever but clearly not native and when pressed to produce results, at least on my phone, HCI performance was unimproved. Worth a look-see to find out what all the noise was about, but I'm back to Moto.

I'm using Nova now since I had it on my V20. So far I have it set up similar to TW and really don't notice much of a difference. Guess I am not a power user.

There was a time when companies had heavy skins and a ton of their own features... websense, touchwiz and just a mess in functionality. That’s why Android Editions where more common to provide a clean plain version over their skins. But launchers like Nova were available to the rest to clean up the manufacturers mess.

Now a days UIs are so much cleaner and closer to Android that launchers are not needed as much. They offer a bit of customization but unless it’s a feature that you have to have that’s not available stock then what came out of the box usually gets the job done for most.

The Note 7 was the first Samsung I was going to buy where I actually liked the way touchwiz looked. There are a couple of features I’d like on Nova but no complaints with stock experience on the 8 so probably won’t even bother with Nova.

I'm curious if anyone is willing to tell me why they like TW better I immediately loaded nova . trying touch wiz but I like my smaller icons and more in my dock.

is there something I'm missing

Nothing, you're fine like i am

I've seen a lot of positive comments about TW on the Note 8 which I tried initially but I find it's inflexible for the icon layout, ever since the Z Ultra I liked to have a seven icon dock and 6x6 in the main app area. With the Note 8 being taller I've changed that to 8 high plus I like the fact Nova can back up the icon layout, I don't know if that's something that can be now though as it couldn't with the Note 4 and the stock launcher.

Nova at first can be tricky and play havoc with your device just need to tweet a few settings and all will be good. Usually notification and sounds are the first you will notice and then default apps can get mixed up. Don't let these minor adjustments get you down when you have it all set Nova is the most customizable launcher out there.

I think the stock launcher is fine. No real complaints, but there are just some things I like to do in Nova. Most are just little tweaks but they make a difference to me.

So no, you're not missing something. You are just using your phone the way you want to. That is probably different from me and everyone else. That's what is so awesome about Android.

I liked Microsoft launcher over Nova. Ofcourse stock is pretty great.

Same here, I've been using the native launcher on my Galaxy S8+ since I got it about 6 months ago. In my experience, I've simply not felt that I was missing out on anything as far as launchers go that is. The only minor tweak to icons that I make is taken care of by the 'Awesome Icons' App and that's about it. To each their own is all it comes down to I guess.

I couldn't go without the gestures like swipe down to pull down notifications. With a phone this tall that's a must.

Since Microsoft Launcher came along Nova Prime has been well and truly cast aside for me. It's the best launcher I've used yet and looks gorgeous on the Note 8

There are so many threads like this. Bottom line, Nova is superior in terms of options and customizing. Stock has the advantage of being designed for the phone and can be themed more thoroughly with Samsun Themes but it definitely has it's limitations.

I prefer Nova. Among other things, for me there's one thing that drives me nuts. It's the 1/2" of space at the top and nearly the same at the bottom of the home screen Samsung doesn't let you use for anything.

I've always tried other launchers like action and nova but always go back to stock. Not sure why. On my old S7 I find that stock gives me more consisted badge counters for Facebook and email. I need that.
