trying to recover data from broken lcd note 4

[AC Question]

I'm using wondershare Dr phone for andriod to help recover the data on my note 4 which i recently broke the lcd display (phone turns on, but screen is blank)

After some time i can get the recovery process to start in the program, however when it does the phone scan to look for files it doesn't progress (even after letting it sit for several days running the scan)

I'm wondering if there is an easier way to get the files off my phone or if i'm doing something wrong in the program.
