trying to root my shift

dude im not complety a moron now i realize what happens when you extract files. and there is a shift older with those files in it and the are in the root of the SD card.
and in my shell im seeing the # i have root to my device

Dude...I didn't say you were complete moron, I have no idea what you have or have not done since your not really providing much info... If you don't want the help that's fine, cause that's all I'm trying to do is narrow down the problem and help you out...

Honestly this shouldn't be this difficult..

no i want the help
so ive got my phone back to 2.2 trying to use this hboot
ive extracted the files from Shift-root there is a folder name Shift
in this folder there are two files named hboot_eng.nb0 and hboot_orig.bin
ok this folder is in the sd card of my device my device is connected to the pc
ive got root to the device im trying to check the md5sum of the files
its telling me this
# md5sum /sdcard/Shift/hboot_orig.nb0
md5sum /sdcard/Shift/hboot_orig.bin
md5sum: can't open '/sdcard/Shift/hboot_orig.bin': No such file or directory

That's strange if you have the files still inside the Shift folder..

Try this

Busybox md5sum /sdcard/Shift/hboot_orig.bin

Busybox: not found

the files are even showing up on the phone when i go into the sd card

Edit: I misread your post

Get busy box and push to /system/bin or download busybox installer from the market

I would also suggest jumping in the Shift IRC, there other folks in there that can help.

busybox is kind of the swiss knife of a unix tool.

You can try busybox md5sum

Or maybe

/system/bin/busybox md5sum

If you pushed busybox to system/bin or used busybox installer (there are 2 options with the installer /xbin or /bin) Try this

First try this command

Busybox md5sum /sdcard/Shift/hboot_orig.bin

Not sure if busybox is in caps or not but it is case sensitive so try both if the caps doesn't work.

Still no dice try this

/system/bin/busybox md5sum /sdcard/Shift/hboot_orig.bin

so having a shift thats rooted is it agensts sprints terms could i get an anser ASAP?? please
my battery in my phone died wont take charge n stuff. im gonna try to goahed an get a new phone im tired of this thing its so close to gettin my upgrade

Yes it is. You'll need to reinstall a stock rom before taking your phone in.
