Hi all,

I wanted to know if it is at all possible to have some setting on my phone so that whenever I am in an area where I have wifi (home, school, work) that the mobile data is turned off and just the wifi stays on?

I try to turn it off, but I'm forgetful, so if there was a setting that did it for me I would very much like to use it.

Thank you :-)

Well, whenever you phone is connected via wi-fi the data connection automatically turns off . And if you are asking for an app that disconnects your data connection whenever you are in a zone that has wi-fi connection available then i am afraid there isn't any available.

It's automatic thank goodness cuz I'd be forgetting constantly and don't need the extra stress of having to remember.

I thought that was the case (that it automatically switched from one to the other) but last month I went over my usage - whilst I was laying in bed watching Netflix, my bf was also using Netflix in bed (watching a different show) on his own note 3 yet his was using wifi yet mine used part of my data - even though my wifi was turned on, on my phone.

Basically I just don't want this to be happening every month - having my data being used when it should be using wifi.

Thanks for the quick replies!

Sarks.

Yes you can set this up using Tasker. Setup home location (or other location) and have Tasker turn off mobile data and turn on wifi. Set the exit task to turn on mobile data and turn off wifi

Amen to Tasker. Not the easiest to learn to use (ok, one of the toughest), but IMHO, probably one of the most versatile apps available.

It's automatic

I know this a dead thread and my posting in it is probably going to be frowned upon but I feel the need to point out that this isn't true. I have been having overage problems while using WiFi lately too and yesterday when I talked to the At&t customer service rep she said that unless you go out of your way to turn off the cellular data it stays on, and if for some reason the 4G LTE connection is better than the WiFi you're connected to the device will use the LTE connection instead even if the WiFi icon is on the screen,

Unfortunately Data seems not closed when there is WiFi. I have done several tests about that. The traffic may be directing via WiFi but still Data signals are present in Cellular which increases the battery consumption dramatically....
