So, chalk this is as one of the weirder things I've noticed with my Android phone. For about the last week, I've noticed 2 messages icons in my app drawer. It seems to be a random occurrence and I THINK that it happens mainly after I receive a text. I click on the notification, respond, clear, whatever... and then I'll look in the app drawer later on and see 2 message icons.

To note, I am upgraded and for a few days I was using SMS Popup. I uninstalled SMS Popup yesterday, but am still noticing the issue.... not that SMS Popup logically ties into this. When I click on the duplicate Messages icon, it opens the app, but icon disappears.

I noticed this too.

(Just to note, I use Handcent SMS)

When I have a few unread texts, I'll see the two messaging apps icons, one will have the number of unread texts, the other will not. When I touch the one with the number on it, it opens up my voicemail (stock voicemail, I don't have visual voicemail or a 3rd party voicemail app). When I back out it will still show the messaging app icon with the number on it for a split second before changing to the voicemail icon. It will stay like this until I receive a new text message. The voicemail icon never goes into proper alphabetical order.

Did you disable your notification from the default messaging program?. I am running Handcent and GoSMS which is my one I use all the time. Before I shut off notifications in Handcent, I would get alerted 2 times for every message. This would apply to all your messaging programs.

I don't believe they are talking about alerts, I think they are saying there are two identical icons labled 'messages' whichis the default message icon. There is only supposed to be one.

duh, I answered before I had a full cup of coffee in me.

I do notice that there are 2 icons in the APPS called "Messages". I know 1 is for TEXT (SMS/MMS) and the other is for Google Voice. Why they don't call one Text Messages and the other Google Voice is beyond me.

I am running das BAMF and Adryalene put a distinction in the icons.

So, apparently whenever I get a message that isn't cleared from my messages icon, the voicemail icon turns into a 2nd message icon.

LOL. I have the same issue. Two MESSAGES icons. I use Handscent and have the notifications for the stock app turned off.

One seems to take me to the stock SMS app. The other to voice messages. Sometimes the app.will even say "Voice Messages " and sometimes it disappears all together. A Reboot fixes it only to have it return later. Very weird.

Oh well. Since this TB runs so nice on GB I'll just chalk it up to being just "one of those things " and not get worked up over it.
