they ain't perfect either.

A quick recap. After waiting many months for Verizon to release the droid of my dreams, it has released two "dream" phones in under 3 business days (the Raxr and the Rezound) with the third (Galaxy Nexus) a few short days away.

So what of the first two from my layman's perspective? Very nice but not enough to seal the deal.

The Razr - a beautiful phone, good looking screen, nice user interface and excellent accessories (although i am purchasing my phone to be a phone and not a laptop or car gps). It is not much different from the Bionic except for a nicer screen and probably some stuff i dont recognize or think that important.

The Rezound - a very nice looking device with a killer screen - much nicer than the Razr. I am amazed that the Razr did not have the HD 720p screen - in fact shocked. The difference is significant and since i will spend more time looking at it than any other function outside of it being my cell phone it is a big advantage. I also believe the Galaxy Nexus will have the same HD 720p screen. Again, color me perplexed why the Razr is devoid of obviously available and superior screen technology. the other thing about the Rezound is the Beats audio and earbuds - great marketing, but again i have a 10 gig ipod that is ancient but still functioning. Not a bad user interface, perhaps not as good as the Razr but the screen again is the huge difference and in my opinion the game changer.

That being said, neither phone is to die for and more than ever I am leaning towards the Galaxy Nexus. Given the HD screen, the new operating system, the fact that the entire device will be screen and other cool stuff - it is in my opinion in the drivers seat here. I am also intrigued about the NFC, the facial recognition, the beaming (loved that ability in my Palm Pilot) - again not primary concerns, just ancillary stuff. Lastly, if ICS is going to be the next operating system, it makes little sense to get a device that is not specifically built to take advantage of it - i think taking out the physical buttons and making the device all screen is an excellent use of limited real estate.

Anyhow.... one man's view of two out of three devices released.

thank you again for everybody's help and assistance along my travels from getting rid of my BB Storm 1 and reaching the Land of Droid.

Land of Android*

Sorry, I had to. But I do agree that neither the Razr or Rezound are really that great. For your average person going into Verizon to buy the cool new phone they're great, but hardware and software wise won't touch the Nexus. I would take a Rezound over a Razr any day though. The Razr only has a qHD screen and no removable battery, plus it just seems like a thinner Bionic to me. Also I don't like Sense or Blur at all, and would much rather have stock Android, especially if it's ICS.

The Rezound will be the second best phone on Verizon after the Nexus launches. The Rezound is overrated.

Truly dont think of myself as a schmuck, perhaps too loyal. Been with Big Red since 1989. Been with my wife for 34+ years.... and so on.

the BB Storm worked for me so why get rid of it before its time? Now its rebooting,,, and other stuff so i will say goodbye to it and move on and hope my next device serves me as well.

and thank you for being impressed too :-)

And thank you for your insight,, truly appreciated it.

Agreed- i am astounded that the Razr does not have an HD screen,,, it is as though the bput the Bionic on a diet.

And the Rezound - love the screen but other than that, no different than the others except if you want to blow your tympanic membranes to pieces.

So all i am left with is the Galaxy Nexus which my friend who has been with Google for over 7 years says is the Droid that Larry and Sergi are waiting for and will probably give this Christmas as the holiday device to all its employees...

thanks again,

david

I'm in the exact same position, OP. I've been running a BB Storm 1 for over two years. When I bought it, it was the only 3G phone on Verizon I could tether with. I have always hated the browser, the screen, and pretty much everything about the damned phone. Can't wait to upgrade to a galaxy nexus.

I went from the storm to a droid x and couldn't believe the technology leap. You guys are going to pass out when you upgrade to the gnex.

I may pass out from the wait.

Yes I am more convinced than ever that the Galaxy Nexus is my next phone. I am thinking it might even withstand the assault of the quad core devices for at least a year while the software catches up with the hardware.

Best,

David

unfortunately none of the 3 are perfect, but after reading a few reviews on the razr/rezound I dont think I would want either of those phones. The Nexus isnt perfect either but its very nice and better then both of those phones, and I cant wait to own it.

You know, the biggest annoyance for me was the lack of any useful apps for the Storm. People talk about android fragmentation - almost every app you can get for the BBs designates particular models that it will work with, and the difference between a touch screen versus the standard BB keyboard makes it impossible to use many, many apps on the Storm.

I'm just excited to be able to actually install apps.

I read that the Rezound is a tank and is pretty slow considering it has a dual core 1.5 Ghz processor. With the Razr, you are pretty much aware all too much that you are using a Motorola phone. The screen is a little too "blurry" for my liking as well. ;)
