Typing: Special Characters Remove Spaces

On a Droid Pro running Froyo I have a very odd circumstance when typing. Any time I hit ALT and then the key for a special character (like a quote) the character is placed BEFORE the space I typed instead of after.

For example:

Trying to type:

He said, "Hello"

Instead I get:

He said," Hello"

Any idea why this would be happening and how I can correct it? It appears to happen with any ALT-character and it driving me batty!

Hi... My Droid 2 Global does the same thing. Haven't seen a solution yet.

Just one in a long list of things that make me regret getting a Droid.
