U11 vs iPhone 7 plus vs S8 camera shoot out

Depends on who you ask, what you're trying to do with the camera, the lighting, so on and so forth. There isn't a best. All flagships are insanely close in camera quality. I've seen the Pixel used as a "reference" phone in camera comparisons though.
Er, you're describing subjective analysis. That means we're talking about two different things.

The HTC U11 cannot be objectively the best camera when it doesn't outperform the competition. You have no legitimate basis to call it objectively the best. The only thing you can point to is the DxOMark score, which is arbitrary, subjective, and doesn't always reflect real-world use.

Objective in this case means as measured. I think we had the same discussion on display color accuracy. Measurements can't be thrown out because a person subjectively prefers something else. That's just not how things work.

Christ, I wonder if people on camera forums sit there and bicker about what is the best camera? We cell phone people must seem like idiots to them.

No... Just the ones who feel subjective opinions hold more credence than objective facts.

And yet again, you have not provided any credible evidence whatsoever that the HTC U11 is objectively better. You're saying "objective", but in truth, you're belief that the HTC U11 has the best camera is entirely subjective.

Also, here's something that may be slightly more worthwhile

Actually I believe he just dislikes the u11 and will always say that everything is better than it. It doesn't matter what the reviews state, it doesn't matter what the testing has shown, he continues to disagree with everyone on this forum who actually uses one and feels it does a better job over his beloved Samsung phones.

Alright, I’m gonna be that guy and say this.

There is a reason why I never say “THE best”. Because even with all objective evidence, subjectivity plays a role and even something that’s objectively better might not fit a user’s preference. There is a reason why choice exists, you know.

DxO’s scores are an AVERAGE of a total of 14 parameters, split into halves for photo and video. Don’t look at just the entire score but its score in each individual parameter as those will give a MUCH more detailed picture of a camera’s performance.

Quite honestly, the camera on the HTC U11, Galaxy S8, Google Pixel and a lot of high-end phones these days are very good, sometimes even excellent. Unless you’re deliberately trying to do so, it’s hard to get a bad shot out of either in normal conditions.

And here’s a steak photo for no reason other than for fun.

I'm going to report this post because STEAK! I do get your point though. Saying a camera is the "Best at <XYZ>" is probably a better way to put it. It brings a little more clarity and removes the ambiguity from the claim for Best smartphone camera title.

Yep.

The U11, Pixel and S8 plus a few others like the iPhone and G6 are great all-rounders, and each have their own highs and lows.

The U11 and S8 are terrific auto shooters, with the edge going to the U11 for better video due to its mics. The Pixel’s HDR+ processing and DIS are impressive while Apple’s post-processing is generally regarded as being pretty conservative and while LG might lose out in terms of optics, the wide-angle secondary camera provides a lot of flexibility.

As for manual mode, I personally feel that LG wins out for its control layout with HTC and Samsung following. The Pixel and iPhone don’t have manual controls out of the box, but they do support them.

When people have a favorite phone or company that they prefer, and their favorite phones don't take top honors the crying game begins. When they do take top honors... Everything is just fine.

The "Best" title or score from this company has always been a result of the amalgamation of all aspects of the camera performance, not just 1 aspect and this is nothing new.

The Best overall smartphone camera out today as tested by them is the HTC u11 and some people just need to accept it. Is the u11 perfect.. Nope.. But overall it's as good as you can get for right now and all of the oems will try to do better, and that is a Win for all of us.

And inevitably, there will be a phone that will dethrone the U11, and then another and another.

I have no vested interest in the U11 as such, however if one wanders over to Android Authority you'll find the results of their "blind camera shootout" that they posted a week or two ago. This is where they posted photos from each camera in the test (S8, U11, Pixel, XZP, etc), unlabeled, in different senaros and let people vote which they liked the best (A,B,C, etc) in each group shot. With over 16k votes anyone know where people voted the U11 photos ? Last :-p
Again, I have no vested interest in the U11, just found it an interesting read a while ago.

I think the U11 is a great phone. It's the reason why I came to this forum. However, it isn't better than the Galaxy S8/S8+ and that is per reviews. This very website lists the Galaxy S8 as the best smartphone with the U11 has an "alternative". Even Flossy Carter put the U11 in third place behind the Galaxy S8+ and iPhone 7. There is no credible testing that shows the U11 is better than the Galaxy S8 overall. You can like the U11and even think it's the best phone for you and still recognize that the Galaxy S8 is the better phone overall.
