U11 vs iPhone 7 plus vs S8 camera shoot out

I have no vested interest in the U11 as such, however if one wanders over to Android Authority you'll find the results of their "blind camera shootout" that they posted a week or two ago. This is where they posted photos from each camera in the test (S8, U11, Pixel, XZP, etc), unlabeled, in different senaros and let people vote which they liked the best (A,B,C, etc) in each group shot. With over 16k votes anyone know where people voted the U11 photos ? Last :-p
Again, I have no vested interest in the U11, just found it an interesting read a while ago.

I would have mentioned that blind camera comparison, but I voted in it before the results were tallied and the results were bogus. The majority of people voted for number 1 every time. I think only twice there was a different result than the first photo.

When people have a favorite phone or company that they prefer, and their favorite phones don't take top honors the crying game begins. When they do take top honors... Everything is just fine.

The "Best" title or score from this company has always been a result of the amalgamation of all aspects of the camera performance, not just 1 aspect and this is nothing new.

The Best overall smartphone camera out today as tested by them is the HTC u11 and some people just need to accept it. Is the u11 perfect.. Nope.. But overall it's as good as you can get for right now and all of the oems will try to do better, and that is a Win for all of us.

I'm just telling it like it is. Again, Android Central has an article about how the DxOMark scores are meaningless. Some of their evidence is how the Samsung Note 5 and S6 Edge+ have different scores despite having the exact same camera and the LG G6 having the same score as the midrange Motorola G4 Plus from last year.

Do you have a link to the article that you are referring to.? Oh never mind I found it... I particularly like Alex's statements towards the end.. 3rd paragraph from the end of his summary.... I will paraphrase.. The u11 has the best camera of 2017... And the Pixel had the best camera of 2016... Yeah... That about sums it up nicely...

Anything else?

I think the U11 is a great phone. It's the reason why I came to this forum. However, it isn't better than the Galaxy S8/S8+ and that is per reviews. This very website lists the Galaxy S8 as the best smartphone with the U11 has an "alternative". Even Flossy Carter put the U11 in third place behind the Galaxy S8+ and iPhone 7. There is no credible testing that shows the U11 is better than the Galaxy S8 overall. You can like the U11and even think it's the best phone for you and still recognize that the Galaxy S8 is the better phone overall.

There has been credible testing done and in just about every review that Samsung hasn't paid for or coerced shows that DxOMark scores are in line with their reviews.

Sooner or later you will have to just get over your hurt feelings that the s8 in many people's eyes is inferior (albeit slightly) to the experience given by the u11.

We're talking about cameras only. You seem to have returned to the device as an overall package again. This thread is about nothing but the camera capabilities.

Except that isn't what Alex said. He said it is PROBABLY the best smartphone camera. Big difference. If it was objectively better there would be no probably.

Alex didn't measure anything; he is giving his opinion as a reviewer to consumers. His answer is a great example of subjective reviews.

Oh and the idea that there is a Samsung conspiracy where they pay to win is ridiculous. I guess people have to make up stories about why their favorite phones lose consistently to Samsung.

The Note 5 and S6 Edge+ ... has anyone asked Samsung and DXO if one of those devices had the Snapdragon 805 while the other had the Exynos 7420? The SoC is nearly as important as the sensor itself and software is still the biggest piece of the game. Those devices do have different firmware as well. Both could explain a difference. Do we also know for sure that both devices Samsung submitted were on final software?

As far as the LG G6 and the Moto G Plus .. did you read the analysis? The G6 has a few issues bringing it's photo score down. They did score video on the G6 higher than the Moto G Plus.

But most importantly, when you're looking at the 14 numbers that make up the score - those are scaled representations of the measurements. There aren't any opinions in those numbers.

They're 100% subjective scores.

Dude... I've posted irrefutable evidence where gsmarena rigged a camera comparison test in favor of a Samsung. Would you like to see it? Then what will you say afterwards? Just say the word and I'll post it ASAP.

Everybody, just, please, grow up and face the truth. U11's camera is the best at the moment and that's it. As someone already said, in a month or two there will be another, new the best one... But not today.

Let's see it because Google has no idea what you're talking about.

And yet the U11 hasn't won every camera comparison.

They're 100% subjective scores.

This seems to be the entire reason this thread is so long ... it's just a fundamental misunderstanding of what subjective and objective mean. As indicated earlier, I believe this same discussion took place regarding screen accuracy. Not really sure how to get you to understand the difference though.

Because... camera comparisons, when done by reviewers and random people, are subjective, because they're sharing their opinions about what they prefer in each camera. Some are more informed opinions than others, but those are all opinions. Those are not measurements.

I know exactly what subjective and objective means. They're arbitrary, subjective scores.

If a camera was objectively better there would be no room for subjectivity.

I'm sorry, but we are at an impasse. Both of the statements you just made are incorrect, as so the rest of the discussion doesn't make sense without resolving this issue.

If a camera was objectively better there would be no room for subjectivity.

Also incorrect. They serve different purposes. The objective scores are talking about the objective capabilities of the camera, while the subjective reviewers are describing what they prefer, as individuals and that would also take into account things like manual modes, options available, ease of use, etc. Some of these cameras may be quite good at making up for a bad photographer, etc. Which camera is objectively the best is not always going to line up with whichever camera is subjectively preferred by any individual. This happens because people's senses and perceptions are incapable of perfect measurement.

And as we both know, some people prefer imperfect things to perfect things. Some people like the look of over saturated colors, etc. That doesn't change the fact that the image is over-saturated, it only means they like that.
