U11 vs S8 camera comparison video

I had an awful experience with Samsung when trying to buy the S8, unfortunately I didn't read the Samsung community complaints about the S8 with regards to cracked glasses etc. Samsung recommended people to contact Corning for the cracked glass issues, that's like if you buy a car that has defect brake pads and the car company would refer to the brake pad maker instead of fixing it. Nevertheless after reading all the stuff and after contacting Samsung directly they could not tell me when the phone would be shipped and after reading about people posting the same day I bought mine that they had not received the phone yet although some had ordered it as far back as 06/21/17 I decided to cancel it and also realizing that I would not get the 200 prepaid Visa card. They still have a debit hold on my checking account for 724.99 but once that is released I'll get the HTC U11 to cover me until the Pixel2 ships.. At last the ridiculous Samsung customer service said that it might still ship and I should call the delivery company (fedex, ups etc) and tell them I will refuse to receive it, what kind of customer service would say that?

Is Sprint supposed to have U11 yet in USA? I went to a Sprint corporate store to look at one and the cust serv reps never heard of it. Just Bolt.

Yes Sprint is carrying the U11. I've been to 3 stores, 1 corporate, and all 3 had it in stock. I have my doubts that he has never heard of it. He is probably a fan of another brand.

They wouldn't look 4 me. just wanted to sell a s8
Lol the fact they didn't look and tried to push another phone tells u that there is probably an incentive on the phone they are trying to push on u... My homeboy used to work at ATT and he used to tell me that they would get incentives for selling certain phones through out the year

Yup.. pretty much.

You can go into any carrier store and they either push the Galaxy or the iPhone.

It's not just those phones but it is them the majority of the time... Almost all the brands do it that the stores sell

It gets tiring hearing people rip on Samsung. The large majority aren't even close to objective estimations.

I have been an HTC fan almost all my life, I've owned more HTC phones than most fanboys on here (5). I never liked the galaxy phones as I often thought they were loaded with some silly features. But the s8 is different, it's a completely different animal. The Super AMOLED 570ppi display (craziest aspect ratio I've ever seen) while being smaller than most phones by itself separates from the pack. Beveled sides makes it easy to use and looks gorgeous. This really isn't a small thing, you'll be looking at the screen and handling the phone 99% of your phones usage.

The s8 has a fantastic camera and whether or not it's #1 or 3 I really don't see why it would matter to anyone but HTC and Pixel fans as that's really what you got.

The HTC U11 is a great phone. Not a fan of the colours, lack of headset jack and plane build. Nothing really pops out in the hardware except for the camera and speakers. That's what HTC has. And the S8 has clearly (as indicated from this thread and countless videos) very similar camera quality.

So.. Are you going to buy the phone based on its speakers? I know it's squeeze technology isn't worth the 700$ price tag. Let's be objective for a second. The U11 is a top three contender but the difference between second and first is massive.

I bought it because it has the best camera. I bought it because it has the squeeze feature. I bought it because it has the best LCD screen I have ever seen. I bought it because it has great audio. I bought it because it doesn't have curved edges. I bought it because it has 16:9 aspect ratio. I bought it because I think it looks beautiful. I bought it because it one of the fastest phones out there. I bought it because it has great battery life. I bought it because it's not full of bloat like other phones. I bought it because it doesn't lag. I BOUGHT IT BECAUSE IT NOT A SAMSUNG.

The build quality is perfect, the speakers and sound quality are excellent, the squeezable sides are totally unique and work great and my screen is the best LCD I have ever owned. It has a very miniscule amount of light bleed and it's blacks are exceptional..

I'm a huge fan of the colors, lack of bloat, super fast optimized os and a miriad of other things that makes my phone stand out.

Did I buy the phone for it's speakers.. Technically yes along with all of the other things this phone has and can do..

Should anyone else care.. That depends because I know a bunch of people who have the Samsung phones and they all are totally impressed with my u11.. It stands out in a crowd and you can hear it above most other phones...

What matters is if you are happy with what you got, if not get something you do. It took me a long time to to finally find a phone that I truly love.. My wish is that everybody else can find their's regardless of who makes it.

Would take u11 over s8 anyday, to me s8 has no amazing features, curved screen is annoying, way too small and tall, overpriced and battery is just ok...
As i have the mate 9, none of those phone is really an upgrade even downgrade i would say, but u11 over s8 anyday, the sound quality, flat screen, stereo speakers, way faster than s8 and 5.5 is the sweet spot, no useless gimmicks like fail Bixby

I think you're being disingenuous. If you really think the U11 is a great phone, that's awesome. It is. But to say that Samsung doesn't have any stand out features, well..I think you lose credibility.

The U11 has nowhere near the screen quality of the S8. You have more screen pixels packed into a smaller phone. Show me a phone that's closer to 600ppi than the s8. You talk about the mate 9? That has a dismal 370ppi for a fairly wide phone.. The majority of the S8s phone is a screen, we haven't seen anything like this on the phone market. Beveled super AMOLED 570ppi that covers the entire phone. A longer skinny phone makes sense in the hand. I can hit every part of the phone with one hand, can't do that with the U11. Something tells me that U11s design is going to change for next year's model and HTC fans are going to divert their attention to something else to rip the S8 on.

Bixby is a great app, I use it all the time. The voice is not yet ready but I expect big things when it is, same as I expect at least better things with Edge Sense.

I have an Audio Technica m50x headset. If I bought the U11 it would be junk. Utterly stupid move by HTC on this part and honestly much worse than a button on the side for a developing assistant app.

The U11 is not way faster, it's about 1/10 second faster. But hey man if you like your U11 that's great, HTC is a great company. But there is a reason that in a lot of articles about these phones, S8 is used as the comparison benchmark. And no, it really isn't because of lemmings.

Honestly though, it is a material item. Who cares. Buy what fits your wallet and lifestyle.

Display quality superiority of the S8 was never in question and was acknowledged from the beginning. Why did you even bring that up?

Also to bring up ppi when the number is over ~400 is completely useless. The difference cannot be discerned outside of usage behind a VR headset. Also a 'longer" + "skinny" phone does not make one-handed use easier, as you are now dealing with a taller handset especially when the 18:9 ratio is implemented, which not everyone can find reaching all areas with ease.

Also
Show me a phone that's closer to 600ppi than the s8

S8 - 571ppi
Xperia Z5 premium - 806 ppi

I've showed you a phone the exceeds your demand, now what?

You are wrong because the Xiaomi Mi Mix had minimal bezels and was released in 2016. Also, the Sharp Aquos Crystal pioneered the design and they were released in 2014 (and before you bring up its chin, the total area taken up looks to be about the same as the combined area of the top and bottom bezels of the S8/8+). Also Sharp has taken it to the next level and gone completely bezel free for their upcoming smartphone.

Lastly the topic was about camera prowess between the two, so I'm at a loss about your diatribe.

Your entire post addressing the purpose of my post can be answered looking at the post I was replying to.

U11s camera performs better under tests but doesn't look as good in real world scenarios as the s8. Especially video stabilisation.

I have a friend who has the U11 and he agrees that in this category the S8 wins.

At this point I don't think it matters as the cameras are so good.

Awesome comparison, thank you for the video! But it's too bad that the U11 is getting seemingly short-changed in other reviews. There is some bias in every individual and sometimes that bias can colour their reports, reviews, or analysis of products, situations, etc. Perhaps it's brand bias. You never know. But it's good to know how good the U11's camera is. I've been hearing a lot of good things about it and this thread confirms it for me. Thanks!
