Ugh...Netflix on HTC devices but no Epic yet

Other than no upgrading the OS on phones, Samsung has no real control over what software gets designed for their phones. Samsung could feasibly manipulate the OS to make it more difficult for select software developers to develop apps, but since it's open source the PR onslaught on this alone deters them from trying to control software development for their phones.

It has to do with Froyo and what the Manufacturer used to support DRM content. Samsung has its own DRM service built in. Until we have a truely functional AOSP Rom (never since we hope GB is right around the corner), Netflix isn't working in Froyo. It works in Gingerbread due to that OS's built in DRM handling. This is why it works on the Epic with GB, the Motorola Devices with GB, the Nuxus and Nexus S with GB.

The 2 phones are extremely different software wise. The way they handle DRM content is very different. Plus, why would Samsung want something that competes with their mediahub?

I would agree, but HBOGO works fine & has a lot of video content. I don't see why they cant get Netflix to work on the Epic.

It's into July now, and no support for the Epic from Netflix yet. Anyone have any newer info out there? (From the app side, it looks like the Netflix app hasn't been updated in a while. No new phones listed in the last couple months.)

yeah, i think netflix is waiting for epic to officially get the GB release.

I am running gb aa i3 and I got netflix working, it asks to upgrade, I just push cancel an it goes to login and wrks for me

I have not tried the EF02 gingerbread leak. Does anyone know if Netfix works on this leak?

Been watching Netflix on my Epic for a couple months now. Kinda shocked when I saw the title of this thread. There have been fixes availble for awhile now.

And every one of those require the user to be running a leaked GB rom. Not everybody is comfortable with using a leaked rom, and some have major issues (such as the modem crashing for people in poor service areas - a deal breaker for me) with the leaks.

Then you will just have to wait because it will not be available on Froyo for the Epic. The modem does crash on GB leaks, and if you are nowhere near a computer, it does suck for a bit. It doesn't brick your phone, which is good.

Just in case you guys don't see the other thread. I just downloaded Netflix on the market and it works perfectly on Froyo.

When we posted a couple days ago, Netflix was quiet about what will be supported in their updates. We knew it was going to come to GB (which is currently only available as a leak). What a nice surprise to find they updated it to work on Froyo too!!!
