Unable to backup to Google Account?

Phone - Sony Xperia L1 , model number G3311.

Select Settings > Backup & Restore > Automatic Backup > Where to store files.

There is a Radio button against "Sd Card" and "USB device" but not against "Online account" where my google account is shown.

If I select the "Online account" I get a new screen with a blue header with my name and google account. Under the header it says

"Backup & restore would like to:

Have offline access"
followed by some text explaining what happens if offline access is granted.

At the bottom of the screen are 2 options "Deny" or "Allow".

If I select "Allow" the screen changes a few times but always returns to the "Backup & restore would like to:" option. If "Deny" is selected I just goes back to the "Where to store files" screen without the radio button on the "Online account" option.

The same happens if I try to select my "Online account" under the "Manual option"

I have backed up my account with Xperia Companion, carried out a Factory Reset and restored my account from Xperia Companion but I still get the same problem.

The net result is I cannot backup to my google account. Can anyone help me?

Thanks
Pete

Thanks Galactic Zoo,

Worked throught the link you gave me even though I had already been through process before. Had already set up sync in google account. Still same problem though.

OK. Can you try ""Backup & restore would like to:

Have offline access"
followed by some text explaining what happens if offline access is granted.

At the bottom of the screen are 2 options "Deny" or "Allow".

If I select "Allow" the screen changes a few times but always returns to the "Backup & restore would like to:" option"

Select allow. When you get the message "backup & restore would like to.....", allow the permissions allowing access to your files.

Once you have done that, go into Settings, Accounts (select your google account) then select sync account on the next screen. You should then see a list of things to be synced. Make sure they are all granted permissions. To test whether this has worked, in the same sync account section, hit the 3 dots button and select sync now.

Can you give me an idea of what settings I should be lookimg at as there are quite a few?

Sure, those mentioned in the last paragraph of my post "Once you have done that, go into Settings, Accounts (select your google account) then select sync account on the next screen. You should then see a list of things to be synced. Make sure they are all granted permissions. To test whether this has worked, in the same sync account section, hit the 3 dots button and select sync now."

@PeteJH

I unapproved your 2 post , it has personal information on it , might want to edit and repost or we can do that for you ?

Galactic Zoo, Reposting removed post without personal info.

I have already sync'd as you suggested the first time. Please see screenshot below showing syncs today.

OK that means your Google back up worked as your data is now synced with the cloud enabling you to retrieve it for restoring your phone or transferring to a new device. All looks good :)

I think so If I select "Allow" the screen changes a few times but always returns to the "Backup & restore would like to:" option"

Galactic Zoo - Not sure if backup has worked as I tried a Restore from my google account and still ended up on the "Backup & restore would like to:" option". As melanikoko said "If I select "Allow" the screen changes a few times but always returns to the "Backup & restore would like to:" option"", i.e the same for Restore as Backup.

On the following I think I need to get the radio button as an option!

@PeteJH In order to restore from your Google account data, this works by resetting the device, opening it with your Google account which when it syncs will restore your data. We already know it has synced, so everything is in place, as it should be.

Sorry if I am being a bit dumb but when you say "resetting the device" are you talking about me doing another factory reset that I only carried out 2 days ago as per my first post. Also when you say "opening with your google account" what do you mean as when I turn it on with the power button and enter my pin I just get the home screen.

Have you tried signing up your Google account then signing back in? I dont think a 2nd factory reset will fix this .

Tried removing and resgning into Google accountbut still same problem with no radio button to select google for backup:-[
