"Unable to move app. Not enough storage space." Galaxy S5 w/ 5.0 on Verizon.

I'm sure there are 1000 threads on this somewhere but I'm not finding them specific to my phone.

I've just done the painful factory reset, formatted the external 32 gig SD card, re-installed just a couple apps and STILL get the same error message. The phone storage has over 9 gigs available and the external card is empty.

What gives?

The app itself may not be configured correctly to move any data to the SD card.

It's definitely not that. These are apps that should definitely be movable. Someone has had to of experienced this before. I certainly see this issue on older phones. None of those fixes worked for me however.

This problem was my friend, he was referring to the site of Samsung, where he was informed that there is a problem on these devices and advised to wait for software updates. Check the software update on the manufacturer's website.

Hey man did you resolve this I am having the same issue !?

I see this question asked everywhere so I know it's a common issue but have yet to find a solution. I'm on my 5th sd card & ready to pull my hair out! Has anyone successfully fixed this issue?

Have you had any luck? I've been dealing with this for a few months!

This has happened to me when I update an app from the play store. i especially notice this when I've had my otg cable attached with my flash drive, and afterwards I've updated an app to a new release. What I've found that works is, turn the phone off, press and hold the volume up button, the home button, and power button all 3 at the same time. When the phone turns back on, keep holding it, until it says recovery boot, release all 3 buttons, then use the volume buttons to scroll up or down, and select wipe cache partition, press power button to enter, again use the volume buttons to scroll up or down and select with power button, after its done doing what it does, select reboot phone, and after it's done rebooting, you should be able to move the apps (the apps that can be moved that is) to the sdcard. hope that helps

Well clearing the cache seems to have worked for me although some apps are still refusing to move but not because of space reasons anymore.

Amazon Kindle, for example, goes through the motions after pressing the MOVE TO SD CARD button but ultimately comes up with an "Unable to move app." message.

I used to clear the cache on my previous phones (S4, Ace) on a regular, almost obsessive basis but I hadn't gotten into the habit on my newer A3 2016 (Android 5.1.1 Lollipop).

The only other solution that I have seen for this issue is to reformat the SD card in internal storage (Linux) format. This may have various advantages such as proper file security but does make the SD card less portable (i.e. it can't be read in a Windows PC or a printer where FAT format is expected).

I had same error message. I just replace it with a new mini-SD card and it works for me. Could be a bad mini-SD card.
