"Unable to save changes" when editing photos in Gallery

I had the same problem with the photos app. I figured out a fox by going into settings, device fingers then making sure the pictures folder on the sd card was selected (it wasn't). After that I could suddenly edit pictures! I think photos doesn't have the permission to select it itself after lolipop upgrade. Haven't used the G4 gallery app but I bet the is a similar problem.

"device fingers"?

Sounds like most everyone here found a workaround but here's one more:

If you go into the Gallery app and look through the Albums, there should be one in there called Pictures. That should have all of your edited photos that Gallery was "Unable to Save". I also save pics to SD (with auto backup to GDrive), and had the same problem, was attempting the suggestion here to make a copy of the photo, and BOOM, discovered this by accident.

Cellshock, that's great info!
I just wanted to add that I discovered the same thing happens with Google Snapseed. In particular, it happens to me if I'm shooting .dng (RAW) mode, to my external SD card; when I try to save my edits, I get a "Could not save photo!" error. However, when I open Gallery as you suggested, I see both Pictures (which appears to contain edits saved from Google Photos?), and also Snapseed, which contains all the pictures that Snapseed claims it could not save. Excellent!

I'm having this problem too alongside sporadic "unfortunately camera has stopped working" and "unfortunately call has stopped working" messages. Very annoying. Do you think it's a software bug?

I have an Lg stylo, my problem is I can't save a cropped picture. It only shows you how to crop and when you're done there's a ✖ and ✔ mark above the cropped photo. So I would click the ✔ mark then nothing else happens. It won't even tell me if my photo was saved or what. If I check on the original photo it's still the same, no other photo has been saved that has been cropped. The weird part is that I've done this before and now I couldn't with the same phone. Please help. Thanks.

I was going to say use Snapseed, much more comprehensive and allows editing of the RAW files when shooting in manual (which shoot be about all the time, you can set all the sliders to auto, but still see what's going on in manual to get a better sense of how it works until you're comfortable playing around with it yourself).

Did you find a fix ?

I found a solution for my Samsung Galaxy S5 Verizon phone. I went into Settings > Developer Options > Apps > Do Not Keep Activities (Clear every activity as soon as the user leaves it) and deselected it. Now I am able to edit my photos and save them to my sd card.

When the "Do Not Keep Activities" Option was selected, as soon as I finished editing a photo, the save "disc" icon disappeared as well as all the edits I had made. Hope this helps!
