Unable to silence countdown timer alarm

When the timer expires, according to Google help, you tap the Stop button to shut up the alarm. However, it's not shutting up, instead beeping for 20-30 seconds. Very annoying. Anyone else seeing this and/or have a fix? This is the new 4.2 clock app BTW.
