Yesterday evening I pulled down my window shade to look at some new notifications and I noticed there was a file downloaded to my Download folder called mac.installer.zip. I did not download this file so I deleted it. After work today I come home and see that mac.installer.zip had been downloaded again at 11:42 am. What is this file?

I've subsequently noticed many more files on my Nexus that I did not see there yesterday. What is going on?

Sounds like your have a rogue app downloading/installing things on its own... What have you installed recently?

I only say this because I had the same issue with my kids downloading some kids games onto my N7 (2012) and all the sudden I noticed new shortcuts popping up on the homescreen...

I downloaded Solitaire Classic for my elderly mom to play yesterday.

If I use ES File Explorer and look at Device storage I see folders named "Vendor", "Tombstones" "Persist", "d", and many others I hadn't seen before.

How did you resolve your problem?

Some of these games you download will do that. Delete the game then all of the shortcuts etc. That it created

I will delete the game, there are no extra short cuts. Do any of those file folders I listed--Vendors, Persist, d, - - seem legit?

^^ This...

Its unfortunate that some developers have either allowed their apps to download random apps to your device. I think its a dirty practice doing so without your knowledge but then again when you agree to all the lines of " permissions " to download the original app you kinda open the door to this activity.

I would assume they are part of the misc apps installed. If they appear to have nothing you need or recognize then you should be fine deleting them.

Attempting to delete them yields message "this file may not be deleted." Wondering if they are part of Android.

Then I guess you're not going to delete them. They must be important? Just delete the app then.

I think you are a point where you should consider doing a factory reset. You'll sleep better at night.

I might have to do that. I've only had the device for 3 weeks and it would be relatively easy to reconfigure it after a reset.
