Re: Got my bill - I tethered 412 GB last month

Some people actually believe sprint charges now more because . 05 percent of customers use above average data, let them live in the dark.

If you keep ripping a company off, you're darn right they will charge everyone else more. This is just like shoplifting, you're taking a company's product without paying for it. As for living in the dark, it is not I who is living there.

This is the one and only thing I hate about Android Central - they are quick to shut down threads where people are talking about pirating APKs, etc, but talk of tethering on a plan that doesn't support it? They turn a blind eye.

But I realize I'm far in the minority with my opinion.

I completely agree. This is absolutely an example of people abusing data to the point of it being ridiculous.

Re: Got my bill - I tethered 412 GB last month

I'm not sure how he abused unlimited, if sprint cares they will boot him /her.... But sprint probably doesn't care since OP using that much data is irrelevant.

Sprint doesn't allow unlimited tether. That's why he didn't get it. Have to root to do it.

Re: Got my bill - I tethered 412 GB last month

Good God! On my home network with 2 smartphones, 2 laptops, a desktop and a smart TV with the occasional Zune and an always connected iPad and HP Touchpad, we used less than 80 GB of data. I don't even understand how that's even possible. My data plan is only 300 mb(and I use 2 phones: Lumia 920 and HTC One on that 300 alternating every week) so woah. I really wish all the best for you. Honestly

Oh it's possible. One month my son streamed a load of hi-def gaming videos & managed to Hoover over 300 GB that month.

Re: Got my bill - I tethered 412 GB last month

i did 719gb on my network in my country and they send me notice with a 600$ bill... and gave 3 months time to pay.. the nice thing is that after that they bill me with 10% discount for 1 year

Jeez, that's insane. That would be my like my data usage for 100 months. On average I use around 4GB per month for music streaming, some Youtube, and Chrome browsing.

crap are you serious?

Re: Got my bill - I tethered 412 GB last month

Well... I think it sucks to get charged for tethering...
As a 9 year sprint vet I'll take this time to rant....
Here in Santa Barbara there's no LTE. the 3g is so crappy you can't even watch a video. It pisses me off I have to pay for Primium data when it doesn't exist here . I use about 10 to 15 megs of data a month. I rarely use data outside of my house (wi-fi).
So in closing a big #%?"@! them.
Ah, I feel a little better. :)

The title of this is "I got my bill and I tethered 412gb" so if they charged you normal amount, and you have unlimited, then that's it, the 412gb is informational only. Just pay the bill.

Re: Got my bill - I tethered 412 GB last month

I hope Sprint takes away unlimited data and inputs what ATT and Verizon have, maybe the speeds will improve as well as cheaters like you end up elsewhere.

I can't even say what I feel like saying here.

I struggle to use 1 gig due to my location, you're doing 412g.

That's pretty pathetic, hope Sprint cancels your account.

Re: Got my bill - I tethered 412 GB last month

lol all these peeps have no idea how the internet works. if hes using 412 gb of data it does not slow down your connection one bit. this is a lie your carrier tells you to justify billing you what they do for what little you get. all this hate should be directly toward the carriers since they are they ones that control the system.

this guy should be applauded and I hope nothing comes of it

Re: Got my bill - I tethered 412 GB last month

For anyone who has an issue with users or posts in this thread, the proper course of action is to report the post. Now, I'd like to clarify a few things. First, it doesn't help the carriers to charge the customer base more as a result of a very small minority of customers. It's in their interest to enforce their rules and restrictions on those "offenders," rather than accounting for their use by inconveniencing or restricting non-infringing customers. Second, I'm going to quote a discussion Andrew Martonik had on Google+ with T-Mobile.

Andrew Martonik said:
+T-Mobile My (really, everyone's) issue with this is that we shouldn't have to pay an additional fee to use data that we're already paying for on another device. I can use 10's of GB per month on my phone directly watching Netflix movies, but if I hook it up to my computer and browse a dozen web pages -- using 10's of MB instead -- I have to pay $15 per month.

It's an old-school way of thinking that needs to be left behind. You're doing a great job trying to redefine what a "carrier" in the US is, stop holding onto these blatant money grabbing tactics like all of the other carriers. Customers see right through it. Do right by us, stop trying to rip us off.

T-Mobile said:
+Andrew Martonik We definitely want you to be able to make the most use of your data service! As it stands currently, we are prioritizing the expansion of our network and service for all of our customers, and need to manage the amount of hotspot data used to protect the service experience for everyone. - Terrence

Andrew Martonik said:
+T-Mobile That's the standard line from every carrier and I get it, you want to protect the network. But when your CEO and network engineers stand up at press conferences and entice people to come to your network because it isn't congested like the others, the logic doesn't hold up.

The amount of data someone uses means next to nothing. The only thing that matters is the number of concurrent users on a single tower. If you're going to restrict me from browsing webpages on my tethered computer -- using just megabytes of data per hour -- but not restrict HD movie streaming from Netflix on my phone -- at the rate of gigabytes per hour -- then again the logic fails completely.

Carriers need to understand what a broad number of consumers already understand: we pay for the data, let us use it the way we want on whatever device we want. Because news flash! The power users get around your terrible system of "blocking" tethering anyways. The only ones that get hurt here are the average consumers, ones that will leave you at the drop of a hat for something different.

There's more to the comments than these three quotes, but I'm using these to help illustrate why some users feel that tethering large amounts of data when paying for unlimited ? even when an unrestricted tethering feature is not available ? is justifiable.

I use about 15-20gb Month, not sure how you stay so low on your computer phone.

Re: Got my bill - I tethered 412 GB last month

Upgrading to JB would prevent me from using free tethering (you can get free tethering WITHOUT ROOT but its broken with JB) - Comcast sucks (and is my only option) for broadband internet which is why I tether for now. Please forgive me if I have offended you.

I mean we do have unlimited so I don't understand the issue.

The speeds have absolutely NOTHING to do with people using a lot of data. You need to do homework before spouting stuff that doesn't even make sense lol. Look at T-Mobile.. Unlimited people there and not slow speeds... Why? Because they invested in their network.

Sprint tried Wimax and it failed.. And they didn't keep up with their 3g so it fell behind. The data is not slow due to users.. It's due to themselves.
