Ordered the S3 yesterday and was able to keep my unlimited data plan.

I'm scratching my head on how some where able to keep unlimited data during an upgrade at the discounted price. I believe that this could have been possible when the S3 first launched right before Verizon changed to the Family Share structure.

my wife upgraded from the HTC Incredible to the S3 this past Friday and lost her unlimited plan. for the same price of $30 she is getting 2gs. she never had gotten near 2 g but I am concerned that she will now that the S3 is way above the Incredible. she didn't put the S3 down at all during the weekend.

I currently have the HTC Thunderbolt and I use about 10-12gs a month. my reason for using a large amount of data is my job too, blocks employees from connecting to the network. I stream pandora, and google music. I sometimes watch netflix and youtube. I am always checking twitter and instagram and email. this adds up. I would probably be well over 25gs if I didnt connect to wifi while at home and in coffeshops.

Being a high data consumer, I too am looking at the S3 at full retail. $600 is a hell of a lot to spend on a phone but it may save you money in the long run if you signed into a new 2yr contract and are a heavy user.

Wait a minute... So you had a 15GB usage, and they advised you that you should be fine with the 2GB plan???

I upgraded last night from a POS razr to this sexy G3 and was shocked when they told me that I would have to pay full price to keep my unlimited data.The rep helping me said "you will be fine with the 2G plan" as he checked my data usage for this month...
So I get home and start playing with the phone and I was getting data usage warning..hmmm
Sure enough they were gonna charge me for my previous data usage 15gb

After a quick call to CS I had my unlimited data plan back ..now sure how or why but I am happy.

This was the end result of a very confusing situation due to the incompetence of Verizon reps.

When I upgraded in April I added a line and supplied my own phone, well a week later my razr locked up so I took to Verizon for a warranty exchange, the rep was having trouble with the exchange on the computer, I found out how she solved this problem when I called about up grading the second line.

Turns out she couldn't get the warranty exchange to go through on my # so she used my second line for the exchange and it basically looked as that I had already used the upgrade for that line:banghead:

So after going round n round with the store manager they finally fixed the mistake .

Good riddins to my razr I was happy to get 120 bucks for it!!!

I upgraded on Sunday paying full price... I feel bad spending $700 on a phone, but I have my unlimited data. I still have 3 weeks to decide if I really "need" this phone.. so far I'm not impressed with the battery life, but this thing is FAST!

Hmmm... I just realized something...

So I have 3 Android smartphones... 2 of them are grandfathered into unlimited data... 1 of them is on a 2GB plan... All three are part of the former shared minute family plan...

If I want to upgrade the phone with the 2GB plan, do I need to buy the phone at full pop??? I think I know the answer...but I am hoping for another answer...

That would stink to have to purchase a $600 to replace a phone on the 2GB data plan just to indirectly keep my 2 unlimited plan phones...

Upgrading the phone with the 2GB plan won't affect the other plans.

Not true, they are all a part of one contract and if you renew that contract by taking a subsidized phone, it all will change.

What you said is not true.... if you upgrade on your unlimited data you will be forced to choose a tiered data plan and lose your unlimited. If you upgrade your 2gb phone you will keep your 2 GB. If you add a new line to your family share plan, you will be forced into the share everything plan for all phones.

Well, if you are unlimited you should use your data. Stream music and tether other devices and you usage will show. If not then you may be able to save money paying for less data.

I got to keep my unlimited data by upgrading my wife's phone from an LG to the S3(on her line), and then switched the S3 to my phone line and her LG back to her phone number, on the family plan, with only me having a data plan.

Any line that uses an upgrade, whether it's a single line or as part of a family plan, will lose unlimited. You will not lose unlimited if you bring your own device or if another line on a family plan uses an upgrade.

So, if I'm understanding this correctly, I could "upgrade" my sister's line (Rezound already on tiered data) to the S3. Then when the S3 arrives in the mail just register its ESN to my number to replace my Thunderbolt? Thus keeping unlimited data on my number, getting the S3, and leaving my sister's set-up exactly the way it is now.
