Unlock a new T-Mobile S8

I have a new T-Mobile S8 coming from Samsung direct and was wondering if there was any reason not to seek an unlock code from T-Mobile before putting the SIM in?

Pretty sure the phone has to be active for 40 days.

BTW, there is no technical reason not to unlock when able is there?
