It sucked. I had to unroot and use the sticky because I wanted to try CM6. I also wanted to be able to help people with rooting so I went through the while process step by step. I learned a lot in the process.

Yep this is the hottest thread on here today all about Unrevoked. I never would have thought there would be so much interest personally. That's too bad lilydad that Unrevoked was not your root method of choice and I am sorry to hear that you must not be in a 4G area of course I am only assuming this because of your CM 6 reference. Although I have flashed just about every Rom I can find and I have rooted and uprooted and back again and can't find any of the problems you elude to.

I posted a quote a few posts back about why unrevoked is not the preferred method. It explained it perfectly. And I live close to chicago but not close enough to get 4G. I just feel like everyone should at least try CM6 to see what AOSP is all about.

Yeah no 4G that makes me sad for you. I have been rockin it since I walked out the store with mine.. and I read your earlier posts about the method of rooting you prefer versus using Unrevoked. And I have tried CM 6 its nice but I could not justify crippling the internet speed of my phone .

That'd why I (and many others) don't like unrevoked. It leaves people clueless as to what happens to their phone and how to troubleshoot problems. And they don't explain the limitations of what it can/can't do.

You know what im talking about, the "we" is us people that when a question is posted, we answer it correctly/helpfully. I dont mean to pat myself on the back, but thats just how it is on this site, because WE enjoy helping (out of the goodness of our hearts) other people that wish to root and hack and chmod there stuffs.
We are alot nicer, more understanding, and helpfull then XDA if youre just getting started out on this type of stuff.
Hey guys, the mods cleaned the thread up a lot, there was a bunch of useless posts and what not. Anyway... 27scoob, to answer your question a few posts back, read my original post about the pros and cons (pg 4 i think) and it was quoted again recently.
I have had personal experience. The BIGGEST issue I had was that when I couldn't figure out why I could not boot into recovery... that was just it, no one could figure it out. I did everything right that unrevoked indicated I do. I downloaded the program for mac, rooted my phone, performed back ups, downloaded ROM manager and install clockworkmod on my phone, and the whole 9 yards. What happened...? I would boot my phone into recovery, and for about 15 minutes, no lie, it stayed on the white htc evo 4g screen. I timed it, then pulled the battery. Not once did I boot into recovery while rooted with unrevoked. It was stressful, and a nightmare not knowing what I had installed onto my phone.
The whole root process is supposed to involve flashing this, downloading that, inserting this here, rebooting, restarting, wiping, etc. Not plugging in the phone, pressing a root button and viola.
I am very happy your root has been successful and continues to be. I hope the best for you and that you get to experience 4G as well, I was lucky enough to twice, in Nashville and DC.
In addition to this, unrevoked forever claims to never lose root. They encourage users to do this, but what about when you have a mechanical failure on the phone (speaker clicking, kickstand flimsy, lose this, failed that... they wont do anything for you with a rooted phone. If you can never go back to stock, you can never undo what you've done. Its rooter beware.
Again, sharing my knowledge, experience, opinion, and chainsaw humor.

I decided to root my phone a few days ago. Even tho this thread got silly for a while it convinced me to do it the learning way. I have read damn near every thread on the subject and Im quite sure I can pull this off. I don't expect to have a problem free ride but if I have issues most people here seem to be willing to go out of their way to help. ANDROID CENTRAL FTW. Here I go.

Hey, thanks for posting this thread. I rooted with unrevoked 3.21 a while back and luckily everything has worked great for me. With all the issues people seem to be having lately, I've decided to get rid of unrevoked and root the right way. I just want to make sure before I do anything that I am doing it right. (better safe than sorry)
From what I have read, I just unroot by running the RUU as described in the "how to unroot and return to stock" thread, then go through and root the long way. Correct?
Yes. I did exactly that. Follow the instructions to the T and you will be fine. HTC Sense program for you computer, run the RUU. And re-root...

I didnt care how it was rooted, as long as it was rooted and not bricked, and then i can take care of the rest. Im more than sure by taking the long way taught you a lot about the inner-workings or android/linux, but i had my fill of linux and prefer not to go back there (at least the command line interface anymore). If flashing radios and such becomes a priority, then i will learn to do so, but for now im good with knowing how to just flash roms and to unroot my phone.
Maybe i was the minority also, but the only hurdle i came across was that unrevoked didnt tell me that i needed to install specific drivers on my pc. Outside of that, flashing a rom was easy with or without rom manager.
