Unusuable in Portland - No 3G Service!

I was in Portland, OR this weekend, staying around the northeast corner of the city.

My virgin mobile 3G android services were impossible to use.

On Saturday my host ran out of gas and rather than being able to impress him with my Android, showing the location on GPS and finding the nearest gas station, all I got was a blank yellow screen on Google navigate. I ended up just calling AAA.

It was no better anywhere else. At his house, even late in the evening, I could not use any app services. I wanted to post a picture to Tumblr and could not. I could not even surf the web. Another friend of ours had his iPhone with T-Mobile and he had full connectivity.

It could have just been a local data outage, I can't imagine Sprint not having service in that area.

The fact that you could make calls, means that was very likely the case.

I have an offline GPS program for this reason on my VM Android and use WIFI at home.

We get the left over bandwidth from Sprint.
So depending on the Sprint User density in the area, your speed will vary accordingly.
I notice that along the highway is much better.

Just my experience with VM in Florida.

Be happy you at least had phone service. I live in Milwaukie (suburb of Portland) and I get no bars at my house. I travel a few blocks and BLAMO......full bars. I have noticed that 3G here in Portland is quite slow on Virgin Mobile.
