Update 5.9.901?

Re: Update 5.9.901???

Think about cost. How much will you spend in lawyer fees for something that may not pan out and how much would you spend retail on a new phone? Especially if you sell this one.

i hear what your saying. i didnt mean like i was going to start a class action law suit although i do remember a while back i was apart of a law suit over my motorola v710 (years ago) i just got the notice in the mail and all i had to do was sign my name to be apart of it. i think i recieved under $ 50.00. i know its not much but honestly it isnt about how much money we can make back. i just think the phone sould have been better tested before it was sold. we (bionic owners) should be entitled to atleast all the months we've had the phone for credited back to our vzw account. i know its motorolas fault but vzw should have never sold it without proper testing.

I personally paid 700 bucks for this phone since i was having so many issues with my tbolt.

I was told this phone was great by a rep after changing it out like 5 or 6 times i gave up.

If you want to file a lawsuit there should be no upfront moneys. This would fall under a class act suit and everyone would get a few dollars for cost of phone or some type of settlement but it would take years to see any moneys.

Re: Update 5.9.901???

I just updated to 5.9.901, and will give initial impressions in the near future.

NOTE: Steps to update to 5.9.901 should include how to get into recovery mode (on the Bionic) in the first place.
I figured it out but it would have been a lot easier if I knew in advance to hold both up and down volume before pressing the power button.
Otherwise; the step by step instructions were spot on.

Apologies on that. I forget that not everyone knows how to do that. I forget half the time and end up googling for it. :)

So is the update posted on droid life the same as the official ota from vzw/moto?

Yea, it's just the file someone captured from the OTA download. All signed and official.

Re: Update 5.9.901???

Is it just me or is the link to the Droid Life download now .893 again? What happened to the .901 file?

Re: Update 5.9.901???

Hrmm...

Never anything but stock here; recently manually updated to 5.5.893 via System Updates.

No new notifications

Attempts at manual thru system updates gives "Your system is up to date! No update is necessary at this time."

I am in a strong 4g area, and really haven't had any radio issues. Maybe vzw/moto are spoon feeding this out in areas with known radio trouble?

Their stupid naming convention. The update is named for the version it installs on top of, not what it updates to. Yea, as a software developer who writes software for a living, that convention TOTALLY makes sense to me, too.

Likely staged like most updates are. They go out in groups. Some people hadn't even gotten the 893 update yet and now people are starting to get this one. I gotta say, it's very impressive. :'(

Yeah, I figured as much. I'll probably just wait for OTA and read the changelog in the meantime.:)

Once you read that changelist, you'll probably change your mind about waiting for it. ;) Believe me, I wish I could change my mind and update to it! :D

I like it so far (except more bloatware).
The first thing I did was start all my favorites apps to verify everything still works - no issues.
Next I turned off WIFI (I live in a weak 3g area with almost no 4g) then retested - still no issues.

No real testing methodology was used but here is what I'm seeing:
1. 3g seems faster/stronger and there have been zero drops thus far
2. Google maps worked very well - not as fast as with WIFI but not bad
3. Pandora streaming music while WeatherBug is refreshing at the same time over 3g only shows the limits are being reached - starting to slow down but no buffering or pauses
4. Camera is fast from previous update - no change

To be perfectly honest I'll need to see how well it stays connected at work tomorrow - My building seems to kill almost every phone's 3/4G and barely permits voice (Verizon is the only one that can maintain a call without moving near a window. This update seems rock solid.

Stock here, running 5.5.893 and willing to wait to 5.9.901 OTA. I sure am glad I didn't root!
