Update from Verizon causes Exchange Active Sync "Period to Sync" to be messed up

After I received a push update from Verizon my exchange active sync accounts started behaving strangely. when set to 2 weeks for period to sync email would be displayed that was 2 weeks old or older.... and only messages from the current day would display. each day messages would disappear. If I changed period to sync to 1 month I would see messages 1 month or older and only messages from the current day. if I changed it to all messages for period to sync the device would attempt to download all my messages which would eventually crash as I have 6 years of email on this one account.

I tried everything short of factory reset. I removed device from exchange, removed accounts re-added them etc. the symptoms are always the same which leads me to believe it is an OS issue with the Verizon version of 4.1.2. Can anyone confirm this behavior or does anyone have any ideas on how I might fix it ... prior to the last push update everything was working fine.

Update: I wanted to clarify this is on my Samsung Galaxy S3. I believe the update was a firmware update for teh samsung and not a droid update but I can't be sure as it happened over a week or so ago and I can't remember now. I have since switched my account to IMAP in order to get around the issue.
