I am basically losing my mind, since the update my batter life is atrocious I have done everything in my power to get it back to normal, I spoke to customer service rep and they stated that the update is affecting some people but ughhh why me, they transferred me to technical support because I am to the point where I would cancel this service because why have a phone and I cannot use it, what pissed me off is that my son was calling me and my phone completely shut off even though it stated a full charge, thank goodness he was alright but what if it was important? Anyway technical support was very nice and offered me a free extended battery, downfall to that is they have none in stock smh, the rep stated they would send me one as soon as they are available but also told me they have been out of stock for three weeks. I really love this phone but I am extremely frustrated, great phone that I cannot use, what a load of crap. These problems are making the iphone that I used to have look better and better. Sorry guys I?m just extremely Pissed Off!:(

I think if they can figure out the "Why you" part maybe they can solve it. Immediately after the update i had a warm battery. I also had GPS issues. I cleared the a-gps cache out and pulled the battery, and have been good since. Have you tried those simple things?

Hi Reality,

I tried what you said and its gotten a little better but not much, I am so frustrated just praying they get extended battery soon. Thanks for the help:)

Root and flash back to stock if it's that bad.
Hi Nat,

Root is like speaking a foreign language to me lol. I am going to try to wait until they get the extended battery in stock since they are offering it to me for free because of these problems. I miss my old battery life :(

Hi Lovy,

I don't know if this will help you or not, but it's something I've done in the past week to try to calibrate my battery (see link below).

I'm also not rooted, and I'm using my stock battery and have done the OTA. Yesterday I was off the charger from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with 55% battery left when I put it back on the charger for a full charge before heading to bed.

During those 12 hours, I made a few phone calls, some texting, web surfing and reading Kindle for a good bit of that time. I was on Wifi most of that time, though about 2 hours was on 4G.

I've also shut off the two running services that the Blockbuster app seems to always run - one starts with PVM the other with PVW. It's just part of my routine any time I re-start my phone to head on over to running services and stop both of them - they're really battery drainers.

Anyway - here's the link I was referring to.

I find that my phone has two states. One where i am using battery at a rate that should net between 15-20 hrs of use on a charge (After a bump), and a second where it is very engaged trying to do someting, warm to the touch and likely to net 5-6 hours of use. My success with it has been to be sensitive to this, a re-boot seems to fix it for me (get me back to the sirst state). I don't know what the runaway process is, but if I bump charge then take it off power it tends to be stable.... good luck

I agree with this and I think the primary occasional problem process is Google's implementation of Activesync/Push mail. It seems to get stuck in overdrive for very extended periods of time - killing the battery. JMHO.

About the battery, I have two standard batteries that have been doing great before and after the update. I mean, I've been going 15 to 16 hours light use on each of 'em during my 2 week road trip.

Obviously I have been switching towers every 4-10 miles for days on end with no noticeable bad happenings. I did have two reboots since the update, but not while driving/moving. Still all stock and with all default settings (eHRDP enabled and 4G on).

Thank You All for your feedback and suggestions, what stresses me out is I was having great battery life until the update, I now freeze when playing a game to the point where I have to do a hard reboot, phone is laggy, I just want my phone back to normal. I am going to do the bump charge process all over again and also make sure BB is not running *sighs* once again TY :)

sorry to here about your issues, it will get better (hopefully)

It will get better! It must right?

BTW: I still love the intro to the Iron Maiden tune with that bible verse. It is Vincent Price reading it.. :)

Anybody who's phone is getting hot needs to install SystemPanel and/or OSMonitor to see what the CPU is doing. I guarantee there's a process that's pushing the CPU to 100% non-stop until the battery is depleted.

Please report your findings here, if you do install and check.

The process that kills my battery is Android System (identified specifially via OSMonitor as "system_server"). It usually starts when I have 4G signal and it drops to 3G. Usually the only way to fix it is with 5 or 6 reboots. I also noticed that it takes fewer reboots to fix if I have a very solid 4G signal.

Definately LTE radio related. Here's hoping it's in the next fix. :\

Interesting that you say that about Google, Frank. I havent had any of the preoblems others are having, but I don't use my Google account. I created it when I got the phone six weeks ago, and use a work email and a hotmail address on my phone, of course the google is there, but I rarely:-$ (almost never) get mail on it. I wonder if that's preventing me from having this "overdrive" issue and keeping my battery long lasting...

I have gmail app not synching email just calendar and contacts (which would still excercise the connection, just not as often). I do however have maildroid which seems to get in a loop when i switch wifi off where i dont get updates untill i go airplane mode and come back (Not always, just occasionally). I think there is something funny in the network stack which is managing all of the network pipes on one end and the requests on the other, and not routing traffic properly in some cases. This could easily hang up some apps, cause a lot of retries, etc.

I was having a bad battery life after the update but I had no reboot problems that has plagued many. Last night I had a random restart for the very first time. And to my surprise, the battery life has become better after that restart. I took my phone off the charger at 6:15 this morning and at 9:07am now, I am at 85% on the extended battery with a slightly heavy use. It was at 97% at 7am and 99% at 6:15. Until yesterday I used to be somewhere around 60-65% at this time. I haven't tweaked anything that I can think of. And I cannot explain what happened. Now I wonder if I can now go back to my regular battery.

Good morning android fam,
After the craziness that I have been going through since the update a rep at verizon somehow although states out of stock obtained an extended battery for me I asked the rep how did he find one if they are out of stock, these were his exact words, he states he checked all of their portals and found one and I should receive it free of charge by latest 3pm today. I appreciate the rep taking time to find me one because this crappy battery life I now get is ridiculous.since I did the battery pull the auto restarts have stopped,i just hope this battery eliminates my two hour battery use.quick question for those with extended battery, when I get it should I fully charge it and if so is there a special way of doing this? Thanks all for listening and also the advice, maybe this post can help someone else,i guess out of stock does not necessarily mean out of stock.

I terminated those blockbuster apps earlier today and my battery seems much better... Nice tip. Makes me want to root and destroy that app.

Killing those Blockbuster processes won't make a difference. Those are parts of Verizon bloatware and minutes after you kill those processes, the phone automatically starts them again.
