Update OS

Hi all, I am new to the Android OS, just got a Spectrum and was wondering what the newest OS availiable is and how I upgrade mine.

I cant seem to find any info. Thanks!

The phone is currently running Android verison 2.3.5 (Gingerbread), This is the most current software available for the vast majority of Andoid devices. The newest software out is Andoird 4.x(Ice Cream Snadwich). Very few devices are running this as of right now it is about 3%. as time goes on more phones will get this update. The Spectrum will probably get this software in Q3 this year.But if you root your device it should be available sooner once a developer gets a version running for the phone.

Root? Guess I need to do a little more research into terminology. LOL

So if I am running 2.3.5 why does the store say something isnt compatible with my phone? It doesnt give me any other information as to why.

not every app is currently available for every phone. It all depends on the app you are trying to download. If you are on your device only apps that are compatible for your phone will be visable. If you're on your computer every app that is out will show, once you try to download it it will tell you if it's compatable.

When I was running an app that changed the resolution on my DIncII, the marketplace was telling me that some of the apps that I bought for that device were not compatible for my device now.
After changing the res back to stock fixed that.

Now with my Spectrum, SPB Time will no longer download skins. It must be the res of this HD screen doesn't like available skins.

There is a developer kit from SPB available, but they need a corporate email address.. CHEESERS!

Makes me sad that I actually paid money for that app.
They barely kept up with WinMo.
Now they say that they won't support ICS.
Guess I need a corporate email address.

i take my earlier comment back! I tried SPB shell again and its running flawlessly on my spectrum. I haven't experienced any issues with it at all. And it's running super smooth.

I have Season Zen HD running on my wife's Spectrum.
