Update to 2.2 Froyo and Have ROOT the easy way!

Yes you can wait and do Froyo later. The only way to restore a old radio is to s-off and RUU back or get the stock PB31IMG.zip file and flash it back.

Is clockwork recovery of a backed up ROM = RUU?

I know RUU = ROM updating, so if I backed up my old ROM and restore it.. is that RUU?

** Note: I'm just preparing everything, in case I goof.. I can back out easily.

Can we keep this thread about Rooting your phone and installing a stock rooter Froyo please. If you want information about Skyraider and Kernels please start a thread or preferably use the search function.

I didn't mean any harm, I'm familiar with the search function...nice one.

I was just asking him how he liked what he was running. I'll send him a PM.

These are good instructions, I infact tried it a different way. I did the Unrevoked forever then reverted back to stock, RUU of 2.2, flashed Clockwork, applied the payload-update, busy box, and now have a 100% rooted 2.2 system with no 2.1 remnants. I'm not sure if this will matter, it probably doesn't. I'm just systematic.

So I updated with this method and am noticing that my contacts fb pictures are not updating again? Anyone else notice this? Was working perfectly on the leaked froyo, but now seems not to be updating. Anyone else experiencing this after updating this way coming from leaked 2.2

UPDATE: I just removed my FB accounts and re-added them and all contact pictures updated, will monitor to see if it does it by itself like normal.

Following these instructions to the T and so far so good. The only thing is that after I installed ROM Manager I did not see any sort of "Problems?" button and therefore could not install a busybox version. I proceeded anyway (eek!)... so can I just download busybox from the Market? If not, what should I do??

Ok all is well with the exception of the busybox so hopefully Qazme or someone can chime in and let me know what I should do...

sorry to keep posting but after installing Titanium backup it asked me to install a busybox version, is that ok?

thanks for all your help!!

RUU stands for "Radio Update Utility". So no if you backup your old ROM and then restore it, you are merely restoring a nandroid backup. Just backup that first working install you have before you make any changes and you will be fine.

Getting my phone to froyo was a nightmare, but I got it done. I'm pretty sure this won't work for me.

I currently have stock 2.2 with S-OFF, and stock recovery. Is there any way to get root at this point? Or do I have to wait for unrevoked?

I have the same exact question. Any ideas?

i cant get mine to update the radio either, everything up until that point went smoothly, i've had my phone rooted in 2.1 for a while and i just did S-off... now it gets to the radio zip and says image not found, the other three show image not found our wrong size or something to that effect.

Nope! Needed to do it before loading froyo.

I did.

I Had 2.1 Rooted, Unrevoked, S-OFF

Then I installed the OTA update. I still have S-OFF.

Now I have 2.2, no root, and the error 'Failed to Flash Recovery Image' when I try to run unrevoked.

Special thanks to Qazme for this write up.

And quite honestly... if not for "his/her" bravado about the rooting/flashing the phone.. I probably would not have had the guts to do this...

I'm now rooted w/ s-off and gots me some Froyo goodness.

I would like to say.. it'd probably be a good idea to use titanium backup for your SETTINGS before upgrading because I made a great big DOH! when I realized I had to reconfigure everything again. The Froyo goodness was worth it though..

Or flash clockwork mod, and follow my directions. This ROM has root already! Busybox will install with Titanium back if you use it! The way in those directions negate a much longer installation procedure. Work smarter not harder.

Not sure if you want this here or not, Qazme (if not I'll delete it), but I just had my 1st random reboot ever and this was the (painless and easy) process that I used to update/root last night... I was sending a SMS using Handcent and it just turned itself off.. anyone else have this happen?

Hopefully you didn't restore the data from 2.1 when you did the update to this rom. Just an idea I'm throwing out there. Froyo does not like data from a system process being restored from 2.1, IE sms, mms, system settings, cache etc.
