Hey android central forum users I have a problem with updating my droid incredible that has stumped the guys at verizon and me. I recently had to factory reset my droid incredible because of a massive amount of force closures(I had froyo at this time). Now it's working again but the factory reset brought me back to 2.1 update 1 and now it won't give me the 2.2 update again. I've waited for the system to register and factory reset it various times but still 2.1 and it still says that the system is up to date. I checked my sd card to see if the update was there as well as trying to manually updating it following many types of youtube videos step by step. It just says installation aborted reboots and i'm back to system is up to date but still 2.1 update 1. I'm not rooted or any of that fancy stuff nor do I want to be rooted. I just want my dinc to be 2.2 and working without force closes. I'm asking you guys as a very last resort after talking for hours with verizon, factory reseting and looking at countless youtube tutorials. Going to the verizon store to see what they can do but not keeping my hopes up.:'(:'(:'(:'(:'(:'(:'(:'(:'(:'(:'(:'(:'(

Thanks in advanced,
A fellow Android in need...:(

The people at the Verizon store don't actually know much of anything. OTA updates are only available for a limited period of time, so them expecting you to find an OTA is just plain wrong.

What you need to do is get the RUU file for the most recent update. I believe this is it (someone else confirm that this is the most recent build, maybe?):

http://android.clients.google.com/p...on_WWE_3.21.605.1_1.22.605.2_release_sign.zip

Rename that update.zip and put it in the root of your SD card (meaning don't put it in a folder, just put it in your SD card). Turn your phone off, and turn it on by holding volume down and the power button at the same time. This will boot you up in hboot (which will look a bit funny). Using the volume rocker to scroll and the power button to select, select "apply update.zip". Now just sit back and your phone will update.

Make sure you have a decent amount of battery left before doing this. You don't want your phone running out of battery in the middle of this.

If manually updating doesn't work, you may need to trade your phone in. The fact that it reverted to 2.1 after a factory reset is worrisome.

Below is a link to the latest valid VZW Froyo RUU. Please read the entire READ ME for this program.

You connect your DInc to your PC and then run the RUU. On the first screen of the RUU setup will be a "View Read Me" button.

Good Luck!

I really appreciate the quick responses it seems that I am going to end up trading devices as now the camera isn't working and it is just constantly rejecting the update. Still love the Droid incredible compared to my bb storm but we'll see what I can get Verizon to cough up. Hopefully a new and not refurbished incredible but I doubt it. Again, thank you for the quick responses I will try these methods one more time next week then if it doesn't go through again I will just have to give up.

Sounds like you just got a bad one. Good luck on the replacement!
