[UPDATED 12/30/2012][Sprint Only]UnRoot and Return to stock

Re: UnRoot and Return to stock

The only issue I have had.... and Skunkapes walkthrough was perfect.... but the rom that I flashed (from the original post) tends to FC a lot of apps installed.... I am forced to hard reset the phone after flashing....

Re: UnRoot and Return to stock

I found this page: Install/Restore latest Ice Cream Sandwich Update for Sprint Galaxy S3 L710VPLI3 - Android ROM Update

Note that I have not tried to flash this ROM, nor used the procedure described on that page. If you're still rooted, be sure to create a Nandroid backup of your current, working configuration, and run Triangle Away before restoring the ICS ROM.

Mr Garcia has an at&t version. He has wandered into the wrong forum.

Re: UnRoot and Return to stock

Thanks for the instructions! I've flashed but now the phone is stuck on the Samsung screen and won't boot into recovery. Not sure why recovery won't work, any ideas?

Re: UnRoot and Return to stock

Where were you in the process?

Are you turning the phone OFF before trying to boot into recovery?

lol I ended up coming back to Sprint after having att for two months. I called Sprint and they told me I could return. I cancelled my att plan and gladly paid the early termination fee. :)

Boot into stock recovery and perform a factory reset. It should fix you right up. :D

Stock recovery should work. You are probably mis-timing it.

Re: UnRoot and Return to stock

Hey guys, I'm freaking out and need some help. I recently rooted my S3 and everything went smoothly. I was running android 4.1.2 I think (multi-window feature) and wanted to flash the cyanogemon 10.1 rom. I got titanium back up,backed up eveything. Flashed it. Seemed to be working normally but as I tried to restore my apps and things from the titanium back up it went all wrong. kept getting pop ups saying that systems and some music and applications werent working right..I freaked out and tried to go back to normal and now I'm screwed. I tried recovery and it tells me I dont have a OS on my phone. I restarted it and it seems like its soft bricked on the samsung screen. Can I just follow the intructions on this thread and get my phone working again without root? I can still get into recovery mode and download mode which I hope helps..Please help :(

Re: UnRoot and Return to stock

Not positive, but I know that CM 10 is based on Android 4.2, which uses a different storage setup than 4.1, so I'm guessing that trying to restore the apps and data put files in places where they shouldn't be. I'm surprised that would prevent recovery, though.

If you can boot into Download mode this procedure should work for you. You can then reroot and flash whatever ROM you want, or stay unrooted and apply the MA6, MB1 and MD4 updates. And in the future, don't restore apps between 4.1 and 4.2 ROM.

Good luck.

If you can get into recovery just flash the stock rooted ROM in the update thread. The os missing is because you probably wiped system in recovery. Not a big deal. Just flash another rom and you will be fine.

Re: UnRoot and Return to stock

Thanks Skunk. I read his post as not being able to get into recovery, but now that I reread I see that might not be the case.

Re: UnRoot and Return to stock

I just recetly basically decided to unroot and go back to normal but now it seems as thought its still a little loopy. the unroot looks like it worked seeing as it went past the Samsung boot screen. The problem is that its still showing me pop ups saying "Unfortunately,Email has stopped, the process android, process media has stopped. Also says process.acore has stopped and process.gapps has stopped. Is there a way to fix this because it seems like I need to completely wipe everything and start fresh.

Re: UnRoot and Return to stock

Sorry to sound pretty nooby here but where could I find the stock rooted ROM? I'm kind of lost. Also thanks for the quick reply. Sucks not being without a phone lol.

If your phone is stock unrooted. Just root it and it will be stock rooted. There is no reason for a ROM. Just root what you have.

Re: UnRoot and Return to stock

Well my phone was stock with root before I decided to add a Rom into it. But seeing as the post said to just go into Recovery and Unroot and start fresh it seemed that was the best choice. Now it seems like it went back to normal android and stock but its giving me all these processes that has stopped pop ups constantly. I assume what I tried to do didnt work as the files are still in the phone? On the background I see the set up for the phone and also if it helps theres a I icon with a circle symbol arond it and its crossed out.

If I go into the normal recovery and wipe data/factory reset will it solve the issue? And if it will should I choose to wipe cache partition first before doing so?

You can't unroot going through recovery. I think your best bet is to start from scratch. I really don't know what all you did or if you did it correctly.

If I were you, I would follow the steps in this guide to return your phone to stock. Let it get fully up to date and then reroot it, if that's what you want.

Re: UnRoot and Return to stock

The problem with that is I already tried to do everything in this Thread to unroot it and go back to stock. I dont have a problem with doing that. My issue is that it seemed like when I did everything to go back to stock and unroot it, it worked but only 50%. Like the installation finished and everything went ok but its still giving me the pop ups. I would think that maybe by just going to stock recovery and wipe everything and factory reset it will it? I mean I see the background and seems like everything is running in the background to set up my google account. The problem is I cant go into it because the pop-ups are constant and never ending. Do you recommed just doing the normal factory reset and wipe everything?

Factory reset in stock recovery is what I would try.

Hey guys (Skunk & Meyer), I don't know if this is proper or not. If it isn't let me know and I'll remove this link.

I thought I would leave it up to you to decide as I don't want to be a caca head!

Alternate method

[UPDATE]: Works perfectly. 30 minutes and the whole process was finished. Resets counter and device status. MB1 with stock recovery. Tried to update to MD4 but had to do the google.services.framework method. Remarkably easy.

With thanks to billiard412

I don't see an issue with providing additional information to our users. I can only say that I know Skunk's approach works. I've not tested the alternate approach, so I can neither recommend for or against it.
