[UPDATED 12/30/2012][Sprint Only]UnRoot and Return to stock

Yes... it will work but it will remove root. There is a thread that has the stock rooted Rom. All you have to do is flash it in recovery.

Re: UnRoot and Return to stock

Ok, so I am following this thread trying to unroot my phone. Below is my break down.

-Windows XP 32
-Removed old Samsung Drivers and installed the latest ones
-Right clicked Run as Admin for Odin 3.07
-Put my phone in download mode, plugged in and I got a com with a number
-Chose PDA and chose the .Tar file in the very first post
-In the box in the lower left corner I see message that says added and as and please wait then my Odin says not responding, ever time
-I have downloaded another .tar file that was posted in post #451 but I got a not responding again
-I then unplugged my phone restarted the phone with recovery so I have a phone to use. I unplugged the USB Cable, re ran as admin Odin again without anything plugged in at all... I added the .Tar file under PDA and immediately it says added, please wait, do not remove cable and then not responding...

Any fixes for this?

If you have gone back to stock using this method you cannot update using the update method in the thread titled "Your Way to Update to MD4" until you are updated to md2 first. The updates are incremental. You must install all the previous updates before updating to md4.
You never should have unrooted in the first place. It would have been so much easier to just flash the updated stock Rom.

I sometimes wonder why people insist on doing things the hard way when a simpler way it's available.

My suggestion is to re-root your phone and flash the updated stock rooted Rom. Which should have been the method you used in the 1st place.

Re: UnRoot and Return to stock

Hey SkunkApe, I have the same SPH-L710 and it is updated all the way OTA to 4.1.2. I have the Touch Clockwork Mod installed, as well as obviously rooted. I have flashed it to pageplus after the last update so as not to mess up the flashing. If I use this file (which I already had), and re flash with Odin 3.07, will it screw up my pageplus settings/flash? I have a nandroid TOTAL backup after the pageplus flash and 4.1.2 update, as well as a Titanium Pro TOTAL app & system backup. I just didnt want to have to pay another $50 to reflash to pageplus. I have been told that the pageplus flash flashed NVRAM which isnt affected by custom ROM flashing, but noone will give me a black & white answer if this is true or not. I would flash my Fascinate 3x a week with different ROMs just to experiment with them, but Im afraid to do the same with the S3 because of the price of getting reflashed to pageplus. Anywho..... any knowledge or help on this would be great!

Re: UnRoot and Return to stock

I have tried doing this, and I think I have the stock installed properly. However, I cannot update my phone.

When I go to the update page and choose Restart & Install, it counts down to zero and says rebooting (which does not result in anything). However it does not reboot until the screen turns off.
When I turn the screen back on, it says Restart & Install again.

I tried rebooting, but no luck. I tried reinstalling, but it didn't work. I tried installing ***.tar, but that didn't work either.

I tried getting file from different sources, but it doesn't help either.

Any suggestions? Any idea what might have gone wrong? I have check that I do have stock recovery and I no longer have superuser permission.

Thanks for your help in advance :)

You do have a Sprint phone, right?

Yes this well most likely remove your pageplus flash.

Welcome to the forums!
Do you have the Sprint Galaxy S3? And what Firmware version do you have? Settings>About Device

My son rooted his S3 and it worked fine till he tried to reboot..... then we were stuck at the Samsung screen of death for some reason. Anyhow, I found your information and links, then followed the directions just as given... all I can say is WOW; it worked perfectly! I just wanted to write this to show my appreciation for your knowledge and kindness, and for saving us from having a $400 paperweight LOL!

hi skunkape, i did this and i'm gettting tons of forcecloses. , ie process androi.proces.acore has stopped, gapps has stopped, email has stopped. please tell me what i need to to to stop this. thank you

Has this happened recently? If so, have you tried just a reboot?

Just thought I'd mention that I recently unrooted using this method, in the process of trying to debug another issue. This worked flawlessly. It put me "back" to LJ7 (which is sort of funny, since my phone never had LJ7 on it originally). Within minutes I got update notifications to MB1, and then MD4.

Since then I've rerooted using Skunkape's other thread, and that worked flawlessly, again.

Thanks Skunk, for all you did for us!

Thank You sooo much my little brother messed my phone and got the sim card locked now I can take it to sprint and have them unlock it for my.

ok so the entire process goes smoothly and when the phone reboots I get the sprint start up and samsung logo but I never get past the samsung logo. I have tried to pu it into recovery to try to reset to no avail. . I'm holding volume up,home, and power and i never get the stock recovery console. Any Ideas??

Are you powering the phone completely off before trying to boot into recovery? Then release all three buttons when the Samsung text appears, not before.

skunkape60, I have a question. I want to root my dad Samsung galaxy s3 and it has the 4.2.2 update on it and I was thinking that I could install this 4.1.1 custom firmware on it and then root it using Odin. Would that work? I don't want to brick his phone as I did mine a while back so that's why I'm asking before I do anything.

Woah, slow down a bit.

If your dad's phone is on 4.2.2, then it's probably the international version. This is the Sprint forum, and flashing a Sprint ROM onto an international phone will turn it into a real expensive door stop. AKA, hard bricked. If your dad's phone is truly a Sprint phone, are you sure it's on 4.2.2? Sprint's official update is only 4.1.2.

When playing with ROMs, it's critical that the ROM you want to load to your phone is for the exact version of the S3, including carrier. International and North American phones have completely different hardware, and each carrier in the U.S. has different versions of the phone and software. Don't even consider flashing a ROM unless you are 100% certain it is compatible with your exact version of the phone. When it doubt, leave it out.

[note]Note: This is vary large file and make take up to 10 minutes to complete.
If your phone sticks on the samsung screen for more than 5 minutes, boot into stock recovery and perform wipe/factory reset. Then restart your phone. First boot normally takes longer, so please be patient.[/note]

When the phone leaves download mod and starts to reboot you can remove the usb cord.

Phone is still stuck In Start Up Mode... I've done everything that's described. Is there anything else I can do? :(

Thanks for the help

liss, please give us a little more to go on. What phone and carrier do you have? Exactly what was the problem, and exactly what have you tried to do to solve it?
