I see on sammobile they are taking about updating the S6, S7 to Oreo, yet my poor S8 (the current flagship) is languishing on the October security patch still.... Why hast thou forsaken us Samsung?

Uh, the S8 has Oreo beta program already. Several users of thr S8 who signed up for that are already on Oreo. If it wasn't available to you or you forgot to sign up, you'll just have to wait for commercial release.

Yes, I'm not that concerned about Oreo as I am of security patches. This patch only came this week, I was on August patch before that!

Still on august on a unlocked UK s8! This was the only concern I had about buying this phone and it's looking like I was right. Don't think I'll go with Samsung again. At least with Sony when I had z3c and z5c they were always releasing monthly patches. Shame Sony's phones this year weren't what I wanted.

Judging by the threads on N8 forum that just got November updates, maybe we're lucky.

My phone on beta 3 of 8.0 after a full erase of system - knock on wood, smooth sailing.

The Nov 1 security update dropped for US unlocked several days ago.
My VZW is still on Oct 1.
I've not heard of anyone affected by security issues here, so probably nothing to worry about.

I read on AA that there is a serious bug in November security update affecting battery life. Probably best they skip it and wait for Google to fix in December.

My S8+ is on the November 1 package and battery is as rock solid as ever. I am using the US unlocked version of the S8+ on AT&T in case that matters to anyone.

Still on the August update. So yeah, I think to feel abandoned is a fair sum up of the current experience. Things were great with monthly updates..then the note came out and the updates stopped. Not acceptable at all. I'll be trying a different brand next time which is a real shame cause this is a great phone undermined by a company that couldn't care about user care only user cash.

I think the rollout of Oreo had a huge effect on where development resources are going. And theres a lot of work to have 8.0.0 ready for the S9.

Is 7.0 on the back burner? The N8 has been getting updates lately running 7.1.1 but n o t without side effects.

And no one wants weekly updates like iOS 11.

No, I'll hang in as a modular is based on project treble foundation.

The year plus long transition to Vista64 was something I never want to experience again.

But good luck. Maybe lurk around Google pixel 2 forum and listen how 8.0/8.1 is going.

I get the S8 has the beta programme for Oreo but they can't just forget about nougat. I feel the same that I'll look back at Sony or a pixel next time, as at least these phones get regular updates.
