upgrading

My tablet has Gingerbread on it. I don't know too much about tablet OS's. I have had tons of experiences with Windows versions however. Can I just from Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich without installing the interim OS's? Also, what is the risk of bricking the tablet?

U will have to root it to install a updated android version.
