Hi!
My HTC One M9 won't install the newest software update: 4.28.401.3
It goes to 25 %, then stops and shows a red triangle with an exclamation point.
After a while it reboots, but is still with the old software.
I'm getting real tired of this! I have searched the web for answers, and I see that many has got this issue, but noone knows how to fix it.

My phone is not rooted. It is Android 7.0
I have tried the factory reset, and also cache wipe.

What can I do?
Please... this is so freaking frustrating

Welcome to Android Central! Moved from the Nougat forum to the M9 forum, since this is more of a device-specific issue.

Did you get the phone directly from a carrier, or was it an unlocked version?

Ok, I was just checking to see if you might have gotten it directly from Verizon -- they provide tools to manually install updates, but it'll only work if you're on Verizon.

Is this system update being pushed over-the-air, or are you trying to install it manually from somewhere else?

My phone keeps informing me that I should install this update, and the notification won't go away. I can only delay it 4 hours at a time.

I've tried the ROM option for a couple of hours now. I've got the HTC Sync Manager to work with my phone, and Windows recognises the phone as well, but apparently the ROM installer does not. It works up untill the point where the installer is checking the data on my phone, and the it just says that my phone isn't connected properly, some connection error. It tells me to make sure that the USB cable is connected properly to my phone and computer, which it is - cause both Windows and the Sync manager recognises it...
So now I'm lost again...

Aw, phooey.:'( That's probably the extent of my knowledge. Let me see if I can find someone else to help.

Have you tried different cables and USB ports? Are the HTC drivers up to date?

I have tried different ports, I don't have any other cables -.-' So maybe I should buy a new one?
I installed Sync manager anew, so it should be up to date, and my phone syncs with the program just fine... :/

A new cable might help. Even if it doesn't, it's always nice to have a spare laying around.

So I've found three other USB to microUSB cables... and none works :O windows doesn't recognise the cables at all... it just charges. I'm thinking it's my phone now... maybe I should just get it looked at by a pro -.-'

Which version of Windows do you have? 7 and 8 have really hamstrung outside drivers that aren't signed my Microsoft. That may be why the PC is having issues.

My desktop computer has windows 10, but my laptop has win7.
I bought the phone in Germany, and I live in Denmark... And it's about 2 years old now.

I've seen a couple posts about HTC sync software interfering with the OS flash. Maybe uninstall that program and try again? The drivers should stay on the PC.
