US Unlocked reboot after SIM insert

After I inserted my AT&T SIM card the phone had to reboot and it appeared to perform some type of low level upgrade. I'm wondering if the phone loads a unique baseband image per carrier - maybe optimizing which radio bands are active or something like that. Anyway, I'm curious to see what software versions are reported for those with the US Unlocked version running on a carrier other than AT&T. The fact we're still on the May security update, don't get me started...
