Differences between factory unlocked and US carrier S20 FE 5Gs?

Is it true that unlocked devices can't be monitored for hotspot/tethering like branded devices? Can anyone with an unlocked device confirm or deny this?

On my my unlocked Note 20Ultra you can have hotspotView attachment 327427

What I meant is does TMO (or whatever carrier you use) monitor your hotspot usage or not on your unlocked device? On my branded device, TMO gives me 10gigs of 4G speeds when I hotspot/tether then after I've used it up they throttle me to 2G/3G speeds. Is this the case with your unlocked device?

Oh gotcha, I never used hot spot so can't say for sure .

I'm not sure where you heard that but I don't think it's true. I have Verizon though.

I read it somewhere on this board actually. Thats why I'm asking to either confirm or deny. It would actually help me decide between getting a branded or unlocked device im looking for right now.

I don't see what monitoring hotspot use would have to do with which phone you are using, be it locked or unlocked. If they can monitor how much you're using hotspot, I am sure they can do it on whatever phone you're using. If not, what would be the point of limiting it...to limit only to those who are using locked phones? Makes no sense.

It is ridiculous that we can't get a sound answer from the people who actually made the damn phone. That said I was just getting 80 mbps down from Verizon 4G this morning. 5G is really a complete non-issue for 99% of the population especially since they likely won't even have access to Verizon mmwave for years.

Yup.

Hotspot monitoring has nothing to do with the phone - it's done by the carrier, based on the data stream. If you connect another computer to your cellular device - phone, tablet, hotspot device - they see what devices other than the one registered is doing, and count that toward your hotspot usage (and your total data usage). (It's too trivial a function to add one to look at the type of phone you're using [which is far more complex than looking at the data stream].)

Thanks for the explanation. That makes a lot sense!
