USB 3.0 Mode disables sd card

Ok so anyone have any idea what is going on with my phone if that is the case? I was just able to transfer a 275 MB file to the DCIM folder in USB mode. Shortly after any file I attempted to transfer said the file was unable to copy because the device was no longer connected. I could still navigate through some folders until I tried opening the Camera folder, then it became unresponsive. I disconnected and reconnected, and copied the same file to the root sd card. The file again copied, but then the folder operations became unresponsive. Anyone else experiencing anything like this?

possible card issue ?? does the phone in usb3 mode work fine with files, just the card has issues correct ?? the card would be next to try i think. just toss in another and copy something, wouldn't think you need to do any more than that, if it works, transfer stuff,
dumb question, this is with the white cable, do you have another cable to try?? different usb3 port, different computer?? just reaching here.

just tossing out ideas, hope something helps.

Thanks for trying. I have yet to try a different cable, card, or PC. I'll try to give that a shot and let you know how it turns out.

So far I have tried a different cable, and a completely different s5 with a different SD card. Both had the same problem. So, I think that narrows it down to a problem with my PC or a limitation of the device. Unfortunately my PC is the only one in the house with USB 3.0 so I can't test that to effectively.

The SDcard reader and the USB 3.0 use the same single southbridge BUS but the USB 3.0 requires the entire bandwidth to operate. There maybe a way with software to interchange the BUS to switch from one to the other using internal memory as cache but I believe you won't be able to use both simultaneously.

After additional research I must add to my original post. My first statement is true but the second was an assumption based on USB 2.0 operations. The truth is there was more to USB 3.0 I didn't know. In addition to the speed gains, USB 3.0 is a step forward in other ways. USB 3.0 allows simultaneous reading and writing between two connected devices. That wasn't possible on most older 2.0 gadgets and computers. It does need to be considered that when connected to two devices the speeds are not full but still normally double+ that of USB 2.0

I have to jump in as I just searched for this myself but didn't directly find the answer in this thread, but from what was suggested I think I figured something out.

I'm on a verizon GS5.

I enabled developer mode on the phone, only different think I enabled in here was debug mode on. then when I connected via the usb that came with the phone I saw the Media Device (USB.30) was checked and the usb notification icon has a 3.0 next to it which indicates it

No, there isn't though you won't take advantage of usb 3 with a slow sd card

Don't use the two-pronged USB that came with your GS5. Use a standard micro USB. SD card is fully accessible.

Sometimes SD card is inaccessible after first plugging it in. If I switch to PTP and back to MTP (in the notification area of my phone) I can see my files.

How come my USB 3.0 is greyed out? I need this setting but it will not activate. Im using the OEM cord & all ...?
