USB a to c is currently rapid charging my pixel xl

It's possible because the phone indicates rapid charging once it receives over a certain wattage threshold. So while it's rapid charging, it's still not necessarily charging quite as fast as when using a USB C.

From what I can tell, the phone shows "charging slowly" on 500ma chargers, "charging" on 1 amp chargers (and up to some threshold) and then "charging rapidly" once you're above some threshold.

With an A - C connection, you could be using up to a 2.4a charger, which would give you 12w. Not as fast as the 15 / 18w you can get over USB C (depending on Pixel or XL), but still decently fast (and enough to show the "charging rapidly" message).

Yeah, exactly. I think the threshold for the (confusing IMO) message is actually lower than that still... Not quite sure if it'll show up at 7.5W (1.5A charger) but I'm pretty certain it shows up at 10W+ (2A chargers). Of course it also depends on the charger's signaling...

It's been actually discovered the Pixels respond to Apple-like charger signaling so anything that properly supplies iOS devices will also charge a Pixel reasonably fast with an A to C cable, just not at the absolute fastest speed (pretty close in the case of the small Pixel tho, since it's capped to 15W or 5V at 3A anyway).

I should have mentioned it was plugged into a PowerADD battery pack at the time using the provided google A-C cable. it was definitely charging quickly.
