Edit:
NEVERMIND. I FIXED IT.

...

Wanting to try out CM7 RC 1.8, I went into ROM Manager and backed up my current ROM. After rebooting, I noticed that the usual "turn on USB storage" prompt never appeared. The "USB debugging" notification does not appear either.

I can mount and unmount the SD card to and from my Thunderbolt, but the PC can't see it at all.

I tried unplugging the data cable, and plugging it in again. I tried rebooting. And yes, the battery charges.

Use root explorer and do it from your phone. Much easier

OK but I'm not sure that really fixes the problem

:p fixed it.

Had to install HTC Sync on my PC. Forgot I uninstalled that. Stupid.

also, you can get it to run by choosing InternetConnectionMode, then switching back to "disk drive" (found in your ConnectToPc settings area). often it will take repeated switching for a few minutes before it will install the necessary Drivers of the phone.

it's an odd 'bug' in most Gingerbread ROMs.
