USB C adaptor speeds

I shall be upgrading to a phone with USB C port soon.
But I still have some good condition USB micro to USB A cables for OTG use.
Question is if I use a USB C adaptor to fit on the micro bit, will it still improve the data speed on micro cable or do I need to buy an actual USB C cable to get full benefit,etc

The speed will match the lowest-capable part of the connection. That may not be at the adapter end but more likely at the USB-A end. That said - I prefer to have as few links in the chain as possible. Less opportunity for failure.
