I lost the little USB C to 1/8" adapter to use with earbuds. So I bought one and it doesn't work. There are some really cheap ones on amz that get bad reviews saying they don't work so I spent a few bucks more and bought maybe one level better, but it doesn't work either.

Not only does it not work for the earbuds but I have selfie-stick that I used to use with Note4 through the 1/8" cable and it doesn't work on my Pixel 3XL with the adapter.

Anybody know if there is a solution to this for these accessories? Or do I have to buy a google brand or something.

The ones you are buying are pass through and are adapters only.
You need one with DAC chip built in. Google, HTC or Razer adapters will work.

Oh..... I guess that explains why some are more expensive than others.
thx.

The adapter sold on Amazon typically clearly labels which phone it can work with. There is no universal adapters.

There are as far as I know two types. As an example Motorola uses pass through with the DAC internal to the phone. Pixel uses the type with an external DAC built into the adapter.

The one Apple sells is quite a bit smaller than the Pixel adapter, but works just as well. And it's cheaper.

If you look on eBay you can get some with the DAC built in for about $5. How much cheaper can Apple sell them for? (And the one for the Moto Z / Droid ($4.77 to $5.77) is pretty small.)

All I was talking about was the adapter that came with the Pixel 3 and the one Apple sells.
Google=$12 Apple=$9
I own both, so I feel like I can talk about the functionality and price of both.

Are there several other options out there? Sure.
But it would be wrong of me to recommend any of them, if I don't have first hand knowledge of them.

The best one for sound that works with Pixel is that Razer sells.
