USB cable requirement?

The OEM USB 3 cable went out and needs replacing. The phone won't even register that it's plugged in, but we used a spare USB 2 cable and it works. Only it charges very slowly in the stock charger. Does the OEM charger require a USB 3 cable to charge normally? Alternately, would an aftermarket standard charger with the same rating also work so we don't have to buy USB 3 cables?

I don't recommend after market. Go to your carrier. Let them check it out. This happened with my Note 2. The charger went bad. Verizon gave me a Verizon charger and perfect.
