USB connection help

I'm trying to put some of my music files onto my phone through USB but I'm having some problems. The phone connects and gives me the options of MTP or PTP. I've tried both and I can only get to the phone's folder system when in PTP and I can't move files over in this mode.

On my work computer, I am able to find the phone's file system in MTP mode and drag music files over so it's something do to with my home computer. I have XP on both computers mentioned but the home computer is a clean install with no drivers. I installed the driver I found on the samsung website but this didn't solve the problem. Does anybody have any recommendations? I got the Kies to work on my home computer but I'd like to use my phone like a usb drive to take files with me to other computers without having to connect to the same network.

I used my micro SD card, in a reader and put it into my Windows computer and just dragged all my music onto it. Pulled it out and re-inserted it into my S3. Good to go.
