I plugged my Epic 4G into my windows 7 (64 bit) pc, and got an error that the USB device was not recognized.

Thinking I might need drivers, I went to Samsung's site, support , downloads, cell phones, sprint.

First irritation: they didn't list Epic 4G (the name everyone knows the phone as). So, I then figured out it is SPH-D700. Some of their pages loop back in circles, never giving me downloads for my phone. Other pages don't list that model at all.

Questions:

1. Do I need to download drivers to make the phone be usable as a mass storage device, and

2. If I do, where are they? Is there some trick to get it installed?

Thanks,
Mike

Here you go: Confirmed working Drivers

Also keep in mind your Epic came with a micro SD card adapter, so if you need to you can pop off the back cover of the phone, grab the micro SD and put it in the adapter for direct transfer of files to your computer.

Also, are you using the cable that came with your phone or an aftemarket/3rd party cable?

Some cables only do charging and not data...

Try Turning USB Debugging Off

You could also try turning USB Debugging off, as was suggested to me by Samsung tech support when I experienced the same problem as you have.

Details can be found in my message in another thread here
