I bought one of the USB OTG cables on Amazon that is advertised to work for the GS3. I connect it and nothing happens. My friend has a Sprint GS3 and he gets a notification about the USB being connected when I tried it on his phone. Is this an issue with Verizon phones? Any way to get this working? Thanks for the help.

You'd try your friend's cable on your phone :)

The message isn't showed for long, maybe you missed it ... aah ... and did you connect a thumb drive to the cable? Just the USB OTG cable without a USB device connected won't give you a notification.

The thumb drive should be shown as USB storage on your file manager.

Sorry to have to correct you, but the phone does (briefly) show a notification when the USB-on-the-go cable (by itself) is connected.

Sorry, looks like you got a POS - the original Samsung cable that I got works fine on my Verizon S3 (4.1.2, MF1) [although there's not enough juice to power a USB hard drive]

Well ... my phone does not, but it isn't a Samsung.
Thanks for the clarification that the S3 acts this way :)

One of these USB OTG Y-cables or a powered USB hub doesn't work with an USB HD ?

It very well may - I was just pointing out that it doesn't work by itself.
Thanks for the suggestions.
