Looking to get an Optimus V for use on Virgin's network. I don't want to pay $199 so I have seen a few Optimus S on CL for around $120. How does one flash / root the Optimus S to work on Virgin Mobiles network?

As far as I know. You don't. The phone's unique identifier most likely would not be accepted by Virgin Mobile.

Hmm-you may though..
It's all about PRL flops & cell towers.
Plus the rom is the key as well..

If you cam flash a stock V rom and flash new PRL's it very well may work..

In the mean time it would wise to search the forum here and read up in the roms as well as other PRL's..

One of the dozens of threads covering this should be stickied.

You cannot activate a non Virgin Mobile phone with Virgin Mobile because they will refuse to activate any phone that lacks a Virgin Mobile ESN. No matter what you do to your phone (flash roms, PRL's, place a voodoo curse on it), there is no easy way to the change the ESN. There are also legal issues due to FCC regulations (some may disagree). Bottom line, you need a Virgin Mobile phone to use Virgin Mobile.

You have two options:

1. Buy an LG Optimus V and use Virgin Mobile.

2. Buy an LG Optimus S and use Sprint or Alltel.

You do relize you can clone the ESN and mimic it don't you?..

Nothing is impossible just improveable..

Cant do that here. Its bordering rulebreaking.
yes you could clone the esn but then again that technically is defrauding Virgin and against the law.

Like stated above there is two options.

You'd have to have an unused source ESN to clone from in the first place. So you'd have to use an optimus v anyway to get it working.. Just buy the phone if you want to use Virgin Mobile.

Hence the reason why I did'ent get into full detail about ESN cloning.

Plus getting a none working v would be a way to get a clean ESN..

How do you think those guys on XBox Live use hacked systems and still stay online without being fully banned?
The buy broken 360's and use there serial numbers to flash them to there modded system to get back online if they do get banned.

Same goes with ESN's on cells~

Yes you can activate phones that were not designed for Virgin Mobile on their network. A friend of mine has a Sprint HTC Hero, and he used to have Verizon, he cloned the ESN from his old Verizon phone and put it on the Hero, then flashed a Verizon PRL and the phone worked great. Now he is using the phone on Virgin Mobile using the same method.

And yes you can unban a 360, a different phone can be used on Virgin mobile, sorry about the mult-posts lol
