The stated reasoning is that it's necessary to support the tech that makes the speakers and screen work as they do. I feel that's a lazy explanation. I'm sure there were tradeoffs, but there are plenty of device makers that have clean, glass fronts. HTC, the most design conscious device maker in the Android world, should have been able to pull this off.Regardless, I actually like the button layout of M7 and HOX, everybody likes the screen to be really big, I don't get why HTC logo has to occupy its own row space on M8. It would be interesting to know the motivation behind this design.
I really wanted to be persuaded to get this device as I love my M7, but I don't think it's gonna happen. I think I'll wait a year and see what the next round of devices looks like.
