Using iPhone USB Adapter for my Nexus

Hello AC,

So I recently stayed at a hotel and managed to lose my USB charger adapter. It's the little black accessory as per here:

Now before I run off and buy a new one, I was wondering if other usb adapters would work with the Nexus 4? Say, one from the iPhone 4 or 5? I could technically use my microUSB cable and connect it to the iPhone adapter hub, although it is white and looks slightly smaller.

While the manual did say not to use third party accessories, I looked up the specs for both and the only difference is the Nexus 4 adapter has a 5V/1.2A output while the iPhone one has a 5V/1A output.

So my question is, is it safe to try? Will a 0.2 make a substantial difference? Could I possibly brick my phone? I don't know much about voltage and currencies.

Any help appreciated, thanks!

Yes, any USB adaptor will charge your Nexus 4. Some faster then others. If you must use your iThing charger, have no fear. You may be mocked for it, but no harm should come to you phone.

It should be safe to use. I would assume that the charging speed would be hardly noticeably slower than using the OEM charger due to its output too. Correct me if I'm wrong guys.

It was a wall charger so you want to change it to use your USB cord with the Apple wall charger? If it is a regular USB cable slot, it should be fine. The current seems to affect how fast it charges. I constantly use different USB chargers for multiple devices. Probably not the best idea but I've never even looked at the voltage/amperage or had a problem either (knock on a very large tree). Only thing is that it's Apple so who knows if they have it set to factory reset non-Apple phones if plugged in. :p

Agreed with the posts above - it shouldn't really matter unless it was a massive difference. Only time my phone battery went funny was when i used a fake htc cable some reason it said my phone had 1% forever... lets say it held nfs most wanted for 20min - never had that problem with my old htc though maybe it was uncable related.

Anyways, if your using the right cable and its not much of a difference don't see why not, since its a bit less power it wouldn't do any damage - only chance would be if you tried to put too much power through it.
