Android Central Question

After a recent software update, my phones battery life absolutely tanked. Since I can't post a link to screenshots, all I can tell you is the drain using data was about %40 in 1 hour. This happened the first time I turned off my wifi and started using mobile data instead, which I have done many times before with results nowhere near this level of battery drain. I also noticed a category I haven't seen before called "mobile network standby" which was using quite a bit of battery. I should note, as soon as I switched back to wifi and turned data off the battery drain was back to normal.

Transcript of battery usage:

Apps(%1 used by Reddit is fun)--%25

System(%7 used by Android system)--%23

Mobile Network Standby--%20

Phone Idle--%13

Wifi--%0

Bluetooth--%0

Welcome to the forums. What phone do you have and which update did you get? How is your cellular signal? Those numbers could be caused by using mobile data on a weak signal.

Sorry, I didn't realize I wasn't on a specific forum. It's an LG G5 and the update was to version 8.0.0. I thinks it's unlikely that it's only to do with bad signal, as I just tested it again today while using Google maps, and had the same result with good service throughout

E: How weak a signal are we talking about here?

Thanks for registering. I'll move your thread to the he LG G5 forum for better visibility.

Sounds good. Thank you.

Just fyi for anyone replying, I'll be asleep for at least the next 8 hours, so don't expect a quick response.

Thanks for the help

Hi Fisher, i am using LG for the last 2 years and i am facing the same issue with it. I play games and use wifi on it all day on a sigle charge but as soon as enable mobile data my battery is also starting to vanish in speed so i use mobile data as a last resort and mostly use wifi to stay connect with the internet.
There are only one solution i had for this problem which is to keep a power bank handy if you need to use the mobile data on a trip or away from home.
