Using the Nexus 5X on Verizon?

Just got my 5X put my Verizon Sim in and everything works but the WiFi Hot Spot I was hoping would function, it said checking subscription, turned off LTE and locked up. Had to go back to the home screen and it was off-line - no data. Tried airplane mode toggle, still no data. Restart got it back to normal. Any idea how / if Wi-Fi tethering can be turned on? One of the reasons I went unlocked pure Andriod.

I was able to get WiFi hotspot working but it is a part of my plan on Verizon.

I cut down my SIM from my S4, no problem, eazy peazy, with a really sharp exact-o knife. Popped in, started up, no issues.

My hot spot is also working, but like you it's part of my shared data plan.

I had the same mini crisis as a few of you over the voicemail issue. I hadn't even considered that Google would consider Google Voice to be their 'stock' voicemail and had a little melt down. I HATED it in the past, but I was using it as a business number and not my main line. I set it up with my PIN-connected phone number with a little help from my boyfriend calling my phone repeatedly. It works perfect and I couldn't be happier. Plus now I'll save a few bucks a month from Big Red.

Received my 32gb Carbon 5x today.

I have a Verizon prepaid account but my old phone uses a micro sim. At the Verizon retail store they could not activate a nano size with the Nexus 5x IMEI and refused to activate a nano size for the old phone IMEI so that I could just pop it in and try it on the Nexus. Went home and cut the sim to nano size using a template I found online and it is working great. Just for the heck of it, I bought a Verizon nano sim on Ebay that I will try to activate with the old IMEI. Might fit better than my little hack job. If not, the trimmed version appears to be fine. No Google Fi early access in my area so stuck with Verizon for now....

I had customer service activate new SIM on old phone and then transfered to 5X. No problems. I did have to dial *228 and restart phone to get SIM working.

Shame they wouldn't do it for you. When you say retail store, do you mean one of the authorized retailers? I'm going to head to a corporate store here in town on my lunch break today. Hopefully they'll accommodate me. Otherwise I guess I'll be cutting my micro.

I too had issues with a local Verizon store tonight, saying they couldn't give me another SIM card. I explained that I had purchased an unlocked Nexus 5X and that I was a current customer requesting another SIM for the new phone. They blatantly told me no again. Left the store and called customer service who said that they should have given me a new SIM and to return to the store. Told the CSR that I'd rather utilize another store that I normally utilize (was out waiting on the girls to finish cheer practice and went to another convenient store in the area). Will try again in the morning with better results I hope since my account is now noted to give me another SIM so I can utilize the 5X.

If not Verizon is going to lose a customer to Project Fi.

Sorry to hear that. Sounds like the Verizon stores are hit or miss. Like I said, mine was great today so I guess I got lucky. They couldn't activate the SIM with the Nexus so they figured out a workaround which was to use a dummy phone. I was pretty impressed with the expertise and customer service. And yes I know that may make me sound like a Verizon shill, but that's how it went down.

I ordered a new SIM from customer service,. I got it by FedEx in two days. Pretty quick really.

I purchased a Verizon LTE nano SIM card from Best Buy, used my wife's iPhone 5c MEI to activate it, put it in my Nexus and all was good. I did not want to cut down my old SIM, so I can still use it in the old phone in case of emergency.

To follow up, my dumb *** was unaware the sim card in my HTC One M8 was the same size required for the Nexus 5x. Doh.

Works like a champ. Now about this stupid USB C to USB C cord...

I bought my wife a new N5x, she finally agreed to give up her faithful LG VX8350. The LG didn't have a SIM card but it was on a Verizon acct. The gal that helped us had to activate the SIM card apart from the N5x then once the SIM was activated she put it in my phone and it activated. She tried numerous times to activate the phone without first activating the SIM card but it would not work that way. She did the SIM activation in the back room so I really don't know how she did it, but it worked.

Sounds like she used a Verizon-branded phone to get the SIM going so that it would be ready to swap into the Nexus.

She did mention she had to use a fake serial number so I suppose it was a verizon branded phone. As I said, she activated the SIM card in the back room before putting it in my phone so I didn't see how she activated the SIM card. Prior to working with the SIM card she scanned the upc label that was on the back of the phone. From this scan she said the phone would work on the verizon network.

Still working great on Verizon although I have discovered unlike all other carriers with Verizon carrier billing isn't supported on devices not in the Verizon database so no Google Play purchases on your Verizon bill it seems.

Got mine activated at verizon corporate store. Initially the guy said they couldn't do it because they don't sell the phone, but I asked him to just try anyways. He did and got an error and basically said sorry, not happening. I asked if I could call cust. Service from there to see if they could do it and he agreed. I was put through and transferred to Tech Support where my sim was activated within minutes. Make sure the phone should come up as and LG Phone, not a Nexus device, otherwise it won't work. The in store rep was cool and explained it's not that he didn't want to help, he just didn't know what else to do. Then he told me he was buying the 6P.

My phone appears as "LG LGH790".

EDIT
The device ID on my Verizon account is the device ID of my 5X. I don't know what VZW did, but it looks like my Nexus is activated on their network (no work around).

I had success today getting the Nexus 5x activated. They had to do the workaround many have commented about previously (use another device in store to activate the SIM then swap). So far so good other than I noticed I could not change my data plan to a larger plan since the device wasn't recognized in their system. Also for whatever reason when receiving a voicemail there is no alert, again probably since the device isn't fully recognized. Perhaps things are just completely provisioned yet? Both data and voice are working regardless so that's hopeful.

* My particular situation involved porting a number from T-Mobile as a new line so I would expect some additional hiccups along the way. For those going to T-Mobile the 5x works perfectly from the couple of days I used it. I was impressed the visual voicemail in the Google dialer actually worked. The T-Mobile store said they thought the have the whole LTE Band 12 thing working but I don't think it is on just yet. I either was on Band 4 or in areas 12 should be only had 3g or HSPA and on a couple of occasions no data.

I tried to activate with Verizon tonight - a new card since I'm coming from Straight Talk AT&T. Even thought their system says phone is compatible through IMEI check, the system wouldn't allow them to add a plan to the phone thus no service :/

So I've got my 5X. I popped in the SIM from the original MotoX without doing anything else and all seems to be working fine EXCEPT...no data and voice simultaneously? Am I missing something?

Never had a problem on my MotoX but today while I was on the phone I couldn't use GPS so I tested it when I got to the office and yep, no more browsing the internet while on conference calls! Help!

Under Settings -> More -> Cellular Networks I have Enhanced 4G LTE mode turned on. And preferred network type is Global.

and you have Advanced Calling 1.0 turned on with your Verizon Account? Simultaneous Voice/Data work for me.

EDIT: here's my settings (sounds like the same as you)

It was working on my MotoX 1st gen just before I popped the card out so I assume nothing has changed? I'll double check (assuming I can find it in their maze like site)
